pleasant polite people the kind our friends enjoy having around partly fortheir sakes but mostly if were honest for our own we want to hearfwhat a delightful child the implication being you must be a very good parent r y how do you convince a child that politeness is an appropriate and worth- while kind of behavior the best way we know of is to give children good behavioral modefc the child that is treated with courtesy and consideration will be more apt to treat others the same way for example if he is outside playing instead of saying i want you in here now try saying johnny dinner will be ready in five minutes to be followed by five minutes john or if she is watching television say mary would you help me during the next commercial please or at the end of the program w jj this approach is not only polite but takes into consideration the childs need as well as your own the child that is treated with courtesy and thoughtfulness will likely treat others the same way the childrens
