goodwood peewees grab 10 series lead goodwood goodwoods commercial sand and gravel peewees moved one step further to an all ontario win when they downed sebringvilie 127 in the first game of the final series on saturday evening brian koogje started on the mound for goodwood and retired the first six batters in succession in the third innings goodwoods defence which has played well throughout the playoffs committed two errors giving a moral booster to sebringvilie who then came through with four consecutive hits for six runs with one away relief pitcher derek clausen then came in to strike out the first batter and obtain an infield fly from the second to end the innings clausen continued to pitch an im pressive game and allowed no further hits and struck out eight bats he allowed only one further run in the seventh after walking three bats offensively goodwood started early with two runs in the first and four more in the second sebringvilie tied at the top of the third where everything doubles and mixed doubles categories all the entries were first year players most of whom had taken part in a dub sponsored beginners programme conducted by one of the dubs qualified pros competition from the toronto area the niagara peninsula and new york state met in stouff- ville last weekend for the 4th annual centennial soccer tournament the chamber of commerce extended a special welcome to the more than one thousand players and parents who attended the twoday affair every year the whitchurch- stouffville soccer club hosts two tournaments for houseleague teams this year six soccer fields and an army of referees were pressed into service to ac commodate the record number of teams participating in the tour- nament on saturday each team played two games to determine which would advance and corner lunch play the same evening from 600 pm to 700 p m championship and consolation rounds in the mighty mite league commenced september 9 with the second game this evening if necessary a third game will be played on tuesday september 16 facing each other in the championship final is claremont baptist church and ward machine and wdding the consolation final is between baldwin sales and timber bros sand and gravd times are championship 705 pm consolation game 600 pm squirt and mites games will be played at the main diamond a squirt tournament is being held at greenwood on saturday september 13 first game is at 100 pm ray winterstein masonry will play claremont bp in the first game and corner lunch will meet timbers bros sand and gravd with the winners of each game meeting in the final at 300 pm in the mens slowpitch league playoffs the blue jays downed the coop in the final innings of the first game the lions won over county jamboree but lost their second game 76 the blue jays defeated the co op in their second game 1410 to become finalists they now await the outcome of the lionsjamboree third game for an opponent in the final there will be an exhibition slowpitch game at 730 pm sunday september 14 fastball title won by claremont f j lit rt t5- uxbridge claremont took the title in the intermediate mens fastball league championship game against uxbridge on thursday evening leading 21 in the 5 game series the claremont team worked hard to squeak a close 21 finish over their rivals after having trailed 10 for the first three innings top honours of the evening were shared by claremonts pitcher darryl norton and third baseman larry pilkey norton played a wdl balanced mix that had the uxbridge batters shaking their heads in dismay while pilkey tallied the winning hit uxbridge had a golden op portunity in the first innings when they took a one run lead and managed to load the bases un- fortuna tdy no one could bring in the runners and two quick dismissals by
