extended vacation trip this summer arlenes been coasttocoast in canada some day she hopes to make it to england by jim thomas stouffville while difficult numbers done well may prove challenging to ac complished musicians and their director this appreciation of in strumental skills can fall on dead ears when the audience is unschooled at this level of learning that is why a band or a choir and their director must decide when preparing a program if they are entertaining themselves or the folks who have come to be entertained in our opinion the listeners are most im portant otherwise a group is performing only for its own enjoyment with this thought in mind band director paul samuelson and choir director jim rehiu may have wondered at the enthusiastic response accorded the simple songs at stouffville dist secondary schools spring concert thurs day like bandroom blast by the grade 8 band and maracas from caracas by the grade 9 band nothing too difficult perhaps but enjoyable and the choir num ber you light up my life a beautiful song beautifully sung the crowd was the largest to attend such a show the enthusiasm was the kind of en couragement these young musicians need and deserve the amazing part about the program was talent displayed by the grade 8 beginners and the progress made between the various levels right on up to the borderline professionals the concert con tained a touch of nostalgia with the in clusion of special guest artist jeremy waite a longtime member of the sdss staff he played the bass viol pauline powell band president praised the director for his per severance and en thusiasm hes done a fantastic job she said mr samuelson thanked the musicians for their cooperation dance raises 500 stouffville close to s500 was raised friday at the dance
