21 win toronto the tribunes blizzard night at exhibition stadium was a great success for players and spectators alike prior to the blizzard- dallas game on sunday evening the whitchurch- stouffville soccer club sponsored by the tribune fielded a girls mosquito team to play against the thornhill soccer club on the blizzards home field although the skies threatened to open up a thunderstorm held off until the main event of the evening adding to the spirit of the occasion were the supporters brought along in large numbers by both teams the stouffville selectors did an excellent job in choosing their team although it is doubtful if they realized that the opposition would produce such amazons our girls looked small by comparison but more than made up for it with a terrific display of skill and stamina one stouffville official remarked they look old enough to be married the solemnity of the occasion and size of the stadium had absolutely no effect on the teams both set a very fast pace right from the opening whistle and maintained it throughout the game brigette edwards for stouffville had her own special moment of glory when she put her team ahead 10 in the first half it was not until stouffville made a defensive error in the second half that thornhill managed to tie the score 11 but not for long four minutes later adrienne rubbens gave stouffville the clincher and there the score stayed until the final whistle it seemed ap propriate that adrienne should get the winning goal her father helped organize the event sponsored by cards hardware and wad- dington house of games the stouffville team were resplendent in new uniforms as were dub officials vlad alexander who had the unenviable task of refereeing the game also martin johannessep and al hachey who undertook the linesmens duties councillor becky wedley came along to give support as did chamber of commerce chairman ged stonehouse oh yes the blizzard won 42 lose to vikings stouffville stouffvilles rugby team the trojans went down to a 131 defeat against the oshawa vikings on sunday afternoon it was their second loss of the season in league play in the first ten minutes of the game the trojans dominated the play then it was as if someone had pulled the plug nothing it was obvious that with a number of positional changes in the team they were unable to get it together there were a few brilliant moments but they were few and far be tween the wingline seldom got started and on several occasions the scrum became a shambles it was not as if the trojans never had their chances they idid chances came with two ontheline scrum mages and a throw in on the vikings corner flag all failed dave middleton scored early in the first half to put stouffville 40 ahead unfortunately jim ryan failed tr convert glen gibson was missed but it is doubtful if his presence would have made all that much difference to the final outcome the trojans have lost larry holt for the rest of the season he went out late in the second half with a separated rib dave rae will take over as prop the york counties team will visit stouffville on saturday june 7th to play the trojans at the high school grounds kickoff
