lvne couturier stouffville if you want your dog to look well groomed then paula nicholson is the person to see mrs nicolson has started her own dog- clipping business which she operates at herown apartment in success sqarc and so far its been very successful she picked up this skill at previous jobs she worked at the house of poodles and the house of puppies both on bayview avenue even after leaving these positions she kept in practise by clipping her friends dogs and her own two poodles jay and pebbles ive been doing this for a long time but i never advertised mrs nicholson said in september she decided to rr launch the business on her own she posted advertisements in grocery stores and at beckers the response was overwhelming ive already done 52 dogs she said most people ive dealt with have come back a second time and im always getting new customers her husband brian photo display breathtaking stouffville beautiful the kind of pictures every photographer dreams of taking theyre on display in the latcham gallery of the whitchurch- stouffville public library photo professionalism at its best by dr edward a sellers formerly of whitevale and now residing at rr 4 cold- water ont near barrie there are thirty pictures in total all related to nature from flowers to leaves even a frog the detail as picked up by his leica r3 or his leicaflex sl 35mm cameras is amazing almost all the photographs on exhibit were taken last year around the house in the garden the wood lot or a small greenhouse dr sellers is a professor of phar macology at the university of toronto and currently the chairman of the banting and best diabetes centre proceeds from the sale of pictures accruing to the artist are assigned to the banting and best diabetes centre university of toronto prices range from 80 for a 11 x 14 size to 135 for a 16 x 20 delivery will be made in ap proximately four weeks converted the laundry room which extends from the kitchen into a workshop with a table on which to place the dogs and tub to wash them in mrs nicholson said she prefers doing little dogs because the room and the wash basin are limited in size grooming a dog is not an easy task and takes as much time and effort as a woman receiving a beauty treatment at a salon on the average it takes three hours to groom a dog and there are a lot of steps involved first the dog must be brushed thoroughly to remove any knots and tangles in the hair once this is done the clipping can start the next step is to bathe the animal then a complete blowdry mrs nicholson uses a vacuum i started by using a blowdryer but it was too hot and icould tell that it bothered the dogs she- said she says a vacuum cleaner is more useful because it has more power and it dries the dogs coat faster it also remains at the temperature and never gets hot once the pet is completely dry its nails are clipped and its ears are cleaned then comes the finale the fine scissoring mrs nicholson says this is the most difficult part because you go over the dogs hair making sure that its all one length this takes a long time you have to style it just like a hairdresser i she said mrs nicholson said that she hasnt en countered too many problems handling the dogs so far the hardest part is to get them to stand still very few will just stand there it takes a lot of patience she said presently mrs nicholson said she pre fers doing only one dog a day because of the amount of time involved she usually sets up her appointments for 10 am but she will do a dog in the evening if the person is unable to come in the morning she will do any type of dog and it doesnt have to be for the whole treatment if a customer only wants the pet bathed shell do that too mrs nicholson said the average poodle should be clipped once every two months for any other type of dog its up to the discretion of the owner she charges 13 for 1 the complete treatment if its a small dog and 10 for just a bath and blow- dry mrs hicholson said she was thinking of opening a store with more space so she could do larger dogs but i dont know how it would go over i dont know if there really is that kind of need what mrs nicholson really hopes for in the future is to operate a boarding kennel and do clipping on the side until then shes content to go on clipping at home mm town of whitchurchstouffville citizen year ft i take
