celebration of that milestone draws to a close it was fitting that the most rev edward walter scott archbishop and primate of the anglican church of canada should be the guest of honor at a centennial supper nov 21 the event attended by several outside the charge including- rev and mrs jim carder of the united church and rev and mrs ted creen of the presbyterian church was in charge of michael follett the rectors warden and master of ceremonies words of welcome were spoken by rev wf edney canon h l puxley introduced the guest speaker archbishop scott challenged his audience to think beyond the scope of the local parish and consider itself part of a worldwide fellowship a world community the challenge of the church is to make that community come alive he said rev scott urged the adoption of a new pattern of values with love and concern for other people uppermost on the priority scale lets move away from tragedy and terror and establish a new society he said s he urged his listeners to always maintain open minds to new ideas from any source do this and god will provide more than we desire or deserve he concluded on behalf of christ church john mcmurray the peoples warden presented the archbishop with a copy of the parish history entitled the first century 18791979 the audience joined in the singing of the churchs centennial hymn written by a member of the congregation grace foote powell mrs powell was present at the supper the most rev edward walter scott archbishop and primate of the anglican church of canada was presented late ira burkholder friendliness won friends stouffville with the passing nov 19 of ira burkholder a long time resident here mr burkholder died in scarborough centenary hospital where hedbeen a patient since suffering a stroke one month before born near greenwood the son of aaron and agnes burkholder he was employed for many years as an engineer with cooksville brick and tile because of his qualifications he was hired as a custodian at stouffville dist secondary school there he gained a wide circle of friends in staff teachers and students alike he had a good word for cverybile and his sense of humor helped to brighten many a dreary day mr burkholderwas a member in the congregation at the stouffville baptist church with strong christian principles and beliefs- while in hospital- his pastor rev don payne called to see him many times and this proved a source of comfort to both ira and marjoric he was a member of the silver jubilee club and always enjoyed the social activities there after residing on market street for many years they moved to the avinlane apartments where he gained even more friends he loved children and always talked to them during chance meetings on the elevator or in the hall mr and mrs burkholder would have- their 56th anniversary marked wedding nov 28 besides his wife the former marjoric white he is survived by one son douglas in toronto a daughter phyllis mrs frankarmstrorigbf vancouver a sister laura mrs walter miller stouffville ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren he was predeceased by two sons kenneth and grant arid one daughter grace warburton rev donald payne conducted the funeral service nov 21 with interment- stouffville cemetery mary ellen orchard service was held from the oneill funeral chapel saturday for mrs victor orchard sr the t mary ellen hattatt following
