the tribune thursday november 15 1979 editors mail fight fire with fire dear editor i was a witness to the disgraceful exhibition of hooliganism on our alain street halloween night as a newcomer to the community i was shocked at what i saw i never would have- believed that such a thing could happen here normally one can shoot a cannon through this town on an average evening without hitting anything however hallowen was nothing short of a mob scene- while for the most part i agree with your editorial on the subject i dont feel ruling themill- tochurcharea off limits is the solution the answer i say is for the police to enforce the towns no loitering bylaw and haul everyone off to jail who breaks il please dont take this as a criticism of the police its not they did an excellent job under the circumstances however the kid glove treatment didnt work and wont work with this kind of crowd authorities must fight fire with fire a previous writer in your paper claimed york regionals finest weretoo tough and this tactic incited repraisals he obviously didnt know what he was talking about as this years antics clearly indicated the police held back and all hell broke loose 1 say rid the town of this unruly element who needs them michael jordan main street east stouffville artist sally wildman resides near glen major in uxbridge township shes been painting for thirteen years and the artist she dips and collects subjects from local nespapers and from her own slides taken at farm auctions one painting included in the show is of a friend donald morrison beside a hereford bull the piece is entitled donald and the resemblance of the two images is uncanny auctioneer walter atkinson well known in the stouffville area was also a subject for another wildman painting sarnia art gallery purchased a painting entitled kings from her recent exhibition in toronto a frameable color reproduction of this particular work will be available for purchase the latcham gallery sally has lived in tl area eleven years sun moving from toronto 1969 she has lived in farm house in lemonvil and also in the town uxbridge once the bon of artist david milne- a leader work together dear mr thomas im writing this letter in the hope it will encourage moral values dear jim it has been suggested to us that the activity at the now publicised kings inn of ballantrae is really quite harmless our town councillors have been booed for their efforts to effect a cover up those who oppose such entertainment are called prudish or victorian as if darkened by repressive standards we arc supposed to believe that if it feels good then its alright if someone wants that kind of enter tainment then we should allow them that privilege it is unfortunate that we have come to the point where we defend such activity are we to believe that the end i have to make a living justifies the means of nude dancing would we say the same in the case of a prostitute we are led to believe that there is something wtong with self control virtue is out indulgence is in if history has taught us anything surely weve learned that virtue brings light indulgence brings fog something has sadly gone wrong with our sexual appetite in our world of indulge thyself we are clearly out of control cs lewis has put it well you can get a large audience together for a strip tease act that is to watch a girl undress on the stage now suppose you came to a country where you could fill a theatre by simply bringing a covered plate on to the stage and then slowly lifting the cover so as to let everyone sec just before the lights went out that it contained a mutton chop or a bit of bacon would you not think that in that country something had gone wtong with the appetite for food and would noi anvone who had grown up in adiffcrent world think there was something equally queer about the state of the sex instinct among us i personally applaud and appreciate the work of becky wedloy james clubine gormley man loses gun gormley a 32 year old gormley area man has been prohibited from owning a weapon for three years and had his gun confiscated by the court following conviction by judge fd white to dangerous use of a firearm according to evidence thomas brash rr 1 gormley was shooting tin cans for target practice at his residence however the bullets were bouncing off the driveway of a nearby property the neighbor complained in addition to losing the gun the accused was someone in the goodwood community to come to the aid of our girl guide company we are in dire need of someone to donate five to six hours a week on a regular basis so this very worthwhile work can continue despite the fact goodwood is only a hamlet the demand for leadership are not keeping pace our immediate need is for someone to work with girls ranging in age from nine to thirteen years although the guides are the smallest in numbers of the three organizations in the community the size is expected to double by the end of this session its far too much for one person to handle should we be unable to find someone then the future of the guiding movement in goodwood is doomed donating a few hours each week is a small sacrifice compared to the sense of satisfaction your response to this plea will be appreciated sincerely mrsb groff goodwood brownies 1st pack phone 610 5368 dear editor with all due appreciation for the writeup given to introduce me to the community i would like to point out that after reading the article published three weeks ago it would almost seem i was on an ego trip i personally hope i did not leave this impression with you if so id like tp point out the following i believe that good spiritual leadership is important however changes re the tribune editorial of sept 6 under the heading too few apart ments in my opinion from personal experience our town is not likely to see a change in zoning attitudes until theres a change in council sincerely stan newmarch main street east stouffville credit goes first to our great god the sovereign ruler of the universe and then to the combined efforts of the pastor and the people who love worship praise and serve this god together we believe at churchill church that god is alive and well and still calls the world to repentance and faith in his only son the lord jesus christ as far as worshipping via television i did say i dont blame some people for doing this if the only church they can find bores them to tears however theres no replacement for the real collective worship of people together in fact the bible is clear that we should meet togethci to hear the word of god to worship and fellowship with other people a church therefore should be a vitally interesting place to be v here the love and presence of god is felt in conclusion i wish to state my support for all people who are attempting to keep this dinnerdance the stouffville figure skating club is hosting a dinner and dance this saturday night in the legion
