l to r ray steel mgr dan wendorf dave dart steve spang brad steel rob stouffville despite high hopes of an exciting dose finish in their oasa cham pionship game against kirkland lake held at stouffville over the week end the junior b team were doomed to a frustrating finish in their second and deciding game against the visitors having taken a surprisingly easy victory 70 in their first game on saturday afternoon the juniors were expecting their northern visitors to give them a fight to the finish second game it was however not to be the only runs came mcbeth ken benson jim chilvers wayne crowder in km rcnaj coach front row l to r mike lafleur dave ke bens 3nd greenaway mark fockler randy grant mike feasby bat boy steve scheu jimhoit randy grant scored on a hit by rod mcbeth with the exception of hits by andy grant and steve scbell in the fifth nothing further of note happened it was a matter of three up and three down for nearly the whole game poor kirkland lake never even got a runner as far as second in this decisive championship dincher most of the blame for this state of affairs must lie with stouffville pitcher jim chilvers who cowed the kirkland batters every time they came to the plate jim sent down a mixed assortment that had the opposition shaking their heads in dismay and frustration as bat after bat was struck out jims total was 16 one more than the previous days game the fielding of the stouffville team was of the highest order with few errors made in either game however stouff villes 20 victory was some indication of how bogged down the game became after the first innings saturdays game was a completely different story the stouffville team got away to a great start at the bottom of the third when with bases loaded dave dart blasted a long ball bet ween left and centre field to bring in randy grant dan wendorf and steve scheu daves spectacular headfirst dive onto base added a certain flair to the triple stouffville repeated the performance in the fourth with three more runs coming from mark fockler on a hit by dan wendorf- jim chilvers on mike lafieur and steve schell scored dan wendorf despite changes in the fifth and seventh innings the kirkland lake boys could do- nothing against the hit ting of the stouffville batters it was probably the best hitting game the home team has played this season stouffvilles jim chilvers started slowly but started to warmup in the third when he notched three successive strike outs this along with darts triple in the following innings was- probably the rqost- disheartening factor that helped the visitors to lake the finalist route on sunday chilvers collected 15 strikeouts by the days end after the presen- tation of the trophy by keith fleming first vice president of the ontario amateur softball association the team took off for a well deserved victory toiir aboard the fire truck 0 hi- 0 f tv sdss basket ball stouffville the york county girls basketball league got underway last week with stouffville district secondary school hosting a double header with king city in the junior contest stouffville was in control right from the opening whistle the girls showed good ball control and were able to monopolize on kings errors so the outcome was never in doubt outstanding in the scoring department was carrie burd who con tributed eight of the thirteen points in stouffvilles winning score head coach wayne nugent will be con centrating on shooting this week and hopes to see a lot more scoring in their next contest against hurohtfetghts team members this season the teams manager is sandra hincks the senior team did not fare quite so well as the juniors against king who were last years north york champions the stouffville squad were not able to penetrate kings strong zone defence and were caught short on the fast break and went down 3015 coach al piette hopes to have these problems sorted but by the time the team meets huron heights ken benson in action on saturday mor ning along with randy grant ken later scored off a hit by rod mcbeth to give stouffville their 20 win for the championship title jim holt keith fleming first vice president of
