anniversary reunion saturday night mr boynton was county president in 1925 jim thomas markham russell boynton looking much younger than his 79 years lit the first candle and cut through a huge cake as the york region county junior far mers celebrated their 65th anniversary with a reunion at markham fairgrounds saturday night mr boynton for merly of v victoria square and now living at nometoni held the position of president back in 1925 eleven years after the organizations founding to him and others before and after alan wall york regions agriculture rep resentative paid tribute mentioning specifically clarke young of unionville as dedicated and talented people who kept this association going all have been and many still are top flight farmers who have given willingly of their time in other avenues of en deavor also he said three partpresidents angus morton eldred king and gary herrema are now mayors of area municipalities nineteen of these officeholders were present saturday each was introduced by the master of ceremonies barton johnson some came from a distance including noreen brown al wall centre york regions agricultural representative at newmarket looks over the list of jr farmers pastpresidents down through the years with two former officeholders alex davidson left in 1944 and wally reesor in 1941 nineteen pastpresidents attended the reunion many from a distance johnson from ottawa- carlton and don and carole hoshel from perth noreen was a county president in 1967 don held the post in 61 alex davidson president in 44 came dressed for the oc casion wearing an original unionville jr farmers hockey- sweater from the era of 31 in noting its like- new condition al wall mentioned the ex cellence of the moth ball storage in the davidson home he also praised stan watson and sons stuart and trevor describing mr watson sr as one of our pioneers stuart watson was a club president in 1950 dennis seeley second vicepresident of the markham fair board brought greetings from the executive and directors saying it was a pleasure to provide their facilities for such a noteworthy occasion i hope our close bond and relationship will con tinue he said members of the anniversary planning committee included nancy broadbelt sue dunn david fieldhouse carol jennings bart johnson jim lockie phyllis mcmaster gary pegg carol phillips lynn rae and karen risebrough the regional president this year is carol phillips branch presidents are michael winch sharon linda schell unionville and david schwartz vellore early cottagers remember muss lake lucy and andrew baxter used to love to go camping at cedar beach back in the early 1930s they en joyed it so much in fact they decided to make it their home today the baxters have the destinction of being one of the few original lake cottagers still residing on the site the couple can genuinely feel part of cedar beachs 50th anniversary because they have been in the area almost since its -inception- moving to toronto from his native scotland andrew remembers his funfilled weekend visits to musselmans lake as a young man he thought nothing of swimming from one side to the other andrew bought his lot on rosehill drive measuring 30 by 100 in 1932 for 250 assisted by only one man he had finished building his home by the following year lucy and andrew state that even when frequent travel took them away from the area the fine facilities at cedar beach always kept them coming back they give credit for the beauty of the area to owners vern and audrey davies and to veins father george who founded the site when- the baxters first moved into their lake cottage the street was a family affair they both had brothers and sisters living right next to them for many years what times we had says andrew recalling the gala bar becues on the side of their property many years back all the people from the area would come andrew chuckles when he tells of the tongueincheek boxing matches he would stage with his brotherinlaw johnny studd with tissue paper stuffed under his shirt to pad his muscles andrews antics kept everyone thoroughly entertained while they realize that those days are long past with most of their original neighbors having moved lucy and andrew say they have a lovely relationship with local residents today now a spry 77 years- young andrew recalls clearly joining the metro toronto police force in 1930 he was a member of the civilian division and later ran the police motorcycle garage as well as heading up the forces band he took a leave of absence in 1940 and served in the airforce for five and a half years andrew retired in 1970 after a distinguished 40- year career mr baxters two loves are music and athletics he has led many wellknown bands and watches all sports lucy is a talented poet she has written lovely verses about the thing that is most im portant to her her family they have one daughter joyce and a son george who is also an excellent musician taking after his father lucy and andrew baxter have gathered many fond memories over their years at the lake and no doubt this charming couple will have many more happy times in the area they love so much the markham
