tournament held last weekend in claremont pitching on his six teenth birthday daryl allowed only one hit in claremonts 20 victory gpver the agincourt headhunters in saturday nights final to further mark the occasion he struck out nine headhunter batters while walking only two the first run of the close exciting match came in the second inning when george redshaw came home on a hit by daryl norton claremonts in surance marker came off a single by marty uzzel in the sixth from first base marty used his polished base running abilities to steal second third and home in the legion teams first game friday night they whipped compute of girls win stouffville the bank of nova scotia girls came through with a thrilling 21 overtime victory over richmond hill in the opening game of the mosquito division round robin soccer playoffs last thursday night brigitte edwards 4 drove a shot past the richmond hill goalkeeper for her second goal of the game late in the extra period to give the stouffville girls the important victory regulation play saw a very close hardfought match with both sides having many excellent f scoring opportunities it was only the superb play of both goalies that end but the stouffville team gradually poured on the pressure resulting in brigittes winning goal with the first win under their belts the girls now travel to thornhill for their second playoff contest and then return home to take on newmarket scarboro 61 daryl tossed a three hitter and struck out 13 batters in five innings scoring runs for claremont were gord lehman 2 lany pilkey 2 bob leger and george redshaw the boys had a much harded time saturday morning against uzzel construction the teams were tied 66 at the end of regulation play and the decision went in claremonts favor because they had more men on base selects lose two stouffville the stouffville selects ladies softball team suffered two onerun defeats to be eliminated from the woodstock double knockout tournament last weekend in their first game the selects were edged out 109 by a team from pelham in the second they lost to bauer from kitchener 1110 leading the way in the batting department for stouffville was fastball representatives ballantrae wendy kerfoot 11 of ballantrae has been riding since she was seven years old and her experience paid off on sunday when she rode ladys comet in the pinto show held to a fine start in their first game stouffville lost to chinguacousy 75 they scored all of their runs in the first inning batting in the clean up position cheryl singleton connected for a triple bringing in sue beelby and jolynne ayotte i with two runs out joanne dart drove out a line drive scoring jackie armet joanne worked her way around with good base stealing to count stouffvilles fifth run in the top of the third the roof fell in on the kinsmen girls as they allowed a grand slam homerun which tied the score in the sixth chinguacousy added two more runs without reply from stouffville to take the victory in the girls second game darlene wagg pitched a one hitter to help her team to a 91 thrashing of byron london this was the highlight of the tour nament for the stouffville team as they had their bats in shape and pounded out the runs the kinsmen girls again struck early with joylnne ayotte scoring on a cheryl singleton double donna ryckman hit another double scoring two more and at the end of two innings stouffville had a 50 lead joanne darts triple scored jackie st john and then joanne came home herself on darlene waggs sacrafice the girls continued their strong hitting in the late innings led by jackie st john and jackie armet their last run came when jackie st john hit into sl t fielders choice bringing in cheryl singleton the kinsmen team then had to play chinguacousy again but unfortunately ran out of steam in this their third game of the tournament chinguacousy hit for five runs in the second then added five more in the late innings for a 100 victory kitchener won the midget championship with stratford taking the silver medal and erin- dale the bronze the teams coaches bill dart and bob morley would like to thank the girls for their fine effort with a special thanks going to the parents and spectators for their support the midget girls will now return to regular league play with their sights on the upcoming playoffs bowling stouffville youth
