arthur texas last march the brides father charles e stuart officiated at the double ring ceremony david is the son of mr and mrs edward l herbert hawthorne avenue stouff ville whitchurch olive komar was only 18 when she first started teaching on the staff at s3 no 4 inpine orchard in lbe fall of 1939 for a then whopping 650 a year and she admits i thought i was a millionaire now her career is coming to a close with her retirement this month fulfilling a goal she has had since she was very very young to teach for 40 years while 36 of her teaching years have been spent in the aurora area mrs komar was born and still lives in a house on the fourth concession of whitchurch just recently olive was honored in aurora for her long and capable years of service and had a chance to reminisce with pride about 4 decades of classes and the munllpo students whom she has provided with both guidance and knowledge while olive doesnt look or act like a can didate for retirement she does say she is ready after a rewarding and far reaching career in the educational system after four years at pine orchard olive moved to auroras elementary school on church street and began there in the fall of 1943 from there olive and the rest of the elementary staff moved into wells where they placd an important role in auroras educational history another highlight in olives career was when she was chosen by the school board to design the art room for the new aurora senior public school when it opened in 1968 she became the art teacher and still teaches art to all the schools students and also has the grade 6 and 7 history classes some memories from olives 40year career which pop quickly to her mind include rescuing the grade 1 rascal from a schoolmate who was trying to stuff him into the furnace at pine or chard school enjoying school skating parties and christmas concerts and halloween parades down yonge street and canvassing the aurora public school board members for permission to get married mrs komar recalls how one of her students who was stricken with polio finally learned to use his legs triumphantly getting to school on bis own by pushing his tricycle ahead of him she says the happiest day was at wells street school when world war 11 ended the whole class cheered on the other hand the saddest moment was when the principal announced over the pa system that us president john f kennedy had been assassinated the whole class cried at the night held in nonor of olive her principal lloyd white summed up perfectly what everybody who has been associated with her knows so well her dedication sincerity and love for her work has had not only a tremendous impact on her colleagues and students but has been an inspiration to all of us throughout the years mrs komar christ
