with the churches indifference is evident by rev cw sorley bloomington christian gospel church having spent twenty years of my ministry in kitchener which was settled by the same type of people who settled the stouffville district and having a great regard and respect for these godly people i am perturbed as i read the tribune from week to week to see the lawlessness and sin that abounds in our community un- fortunately this is more newsworthy than the goodness and honesty and neigh- borliness of the vast majority of our people the violence of fights and assaults some on the main street others in public places the breakins and the lack of respect for other peoples property the vandalism increased consumption of alcoholic beverages and the empty bottles lying around the problems of drugs especially with our young people over and above these things the indifference on the part of young and old to religion the church and to god is all so very evident it has been said when a church closes in the community the community degenerates stouffville has been blessed with a fine religious heritage we have fine churches and good men as leaders but where are the people they do not close the churches they just fail to attend and support them and those who do are treated with a very patronizing attitude which suggest pool souls they dont know any better but leave them alone they arent doing any harm our young people seemingly have turned their back on the church and things spiritual and they are losing the great character building principles that are taught therein many young people from fine christian homes are being influenced by the godless attitude and are drifting away from the church to the heartache of christian parents even the children who attend sunday school are laughed at and considered a bunch of sissies please dont misunderstand me i know we have a majority population which is decent honest and lawabiding that whitchurch- stouffville is one of the finest places in canada to live and im happy to be here but i am concerned with the present trend i have no desire to go back to the horse and buggy days the muddy roads in the spring or the unploughed roads in the winter but i long and pray for people in our fine community to get back to god the bible and the church if we do god will bless the community and if we do not im afraid the hand of god will be heavy upon us what shall it be the blessing of god or the judgment of god six couples have attained a common milestone fifty years together on sept 17 mr and mrs bill pegg baker avenue stouffville
