have enjoyed many long distance camping trips including visits to california florida british columbia and prince edward island christine admits she has her mother to thank for the progress shes made at piano she encouraged me to keep practicing and i ap preciate it now she said jogging is just as enjoyable she claims she thinks nothing of running more than a mile to visit her closest friend gail students at sdss are busy getting into shape whether it be on the cross country course during gym class or on the basketball courts after school it even takes a bit of practice to get used to the classroom scene once again already the fall teams clubs and com mittees are well under way hoping to make the 7879 school year a suc cess a new athletic program has been in troduced this season and is simply called run for fun its purpose is to improve overall health and to have fun at the same time any student can join and try to gain some ground on their phy sical fitness on one of four courses or one of their own design the mileage of each member will be recorded and when the year comes to a close prizes will be awarded to those who successfully completed a certain number of miles 100 miles earn you a cer tificate 300 miles a t- shirt and 500 miles a plaque as well the traditional sports teams are busy getting their strategies planned for upcoming games the jr boys soccer team- coached by mr hodgson lost their opening game of the season 40 to a very experienced aurora squad better luck next time guys last thurs- day the sr girls basketball team coached by mr piette travelled to markhamto take part in an exhibition tour nament the girls made a great showing winning two out of three games as a result of their fine teamwork and ball- handling skills they returned to sdss as the winners of the con solation prize with the future in mind the variety show has already begun its search for new talent and the yearbook staff under the administration of kevin widdifield has started
