competition this is an event in which guards from the surrounding area come together to exchange guarding ideas and techniques the com petition is run for novice teams who have not competed at a provincial level there are five different events ranging from first aid to emergancy situations in which the lifeguards take up guarding positions and cope with any problems that may arise the stouffville pool staff fared very well in their first competition the team consisted of deb foley marianne mann david huxtable boys hamlet take game janice bolton john tebogt and maryjo sutherland the team placed third in the first aid relay swimming relay and the first aid situations while the team won the emergancy situations defeating even thornhill who won the 1977 ont provincial b division championship the team was second runnerup behind uxbridge and thornhill and put stouff ville on the lifeguarding map 1211 lead and finally put the game out of reach in the final inning with two more runs cheryl simpson hit two homers while anne lacoursiere and jannette cooper had one each cheryl counted for three runs anne terri piette and liz crittenden two each for claremont kathy bowes tallied three runs with jane benstead and kelly mcbeth getting two the second game of the week was a complete rout as stouffville hammered uxbridge 241 jannette cooper swatted out two home runs and singles went to elizabeth gibb and elaine morgan runs were scored by bernice armet and elizabeth gill with four jannette copper liz crittenden and cheryl simpson three each terri piette and elizabeth gibb provided the winning pitcher catcher combination mcguedie scored the lone uxbridge run the third novice game was against east gwillimbury and the local girls pounded out a 1611 victory- after three innin of play east gwillimbury led 21 but in the fourth the recycling team knocked out seven unanswered run however gwillimbury came back to tie it up in the fifth at 88 stouffville took control of the game in the sixth inning with five runs and three runs in the seventh while holding down east gwillimbury to three runs bernice armet hit the only homer of the game jannette cooper tallied three runs cathy crit tenden elizabeth gibb terri piette and elaine howie two runs each for the gwillimbury girls robin angus and nancy budd scored two each the goodwood peewee boys met up with stouffville
