terrified of cars still he was lucky minutes earlier some brave young bloods in a van had at tempted to run him down but someone came along and rescued him before he got killed they were playing chicken with him indignantly ex claimed christiane bergauer the union ville girl that saved the panicstricken young dog i got him into my car with the greatest difficulty and then he was so scared he peed all over the car christiane is sure that the little pup like so many others had been heartlessly abandoned christiane is positive the fourmonthold part collie pup was abandoned she canvassed the entire area around steeles ave and 5th line where he was found without turning up an owner but the real clincher is the pups behaviour like all abandoned dogs he wont get into a car for fear of being dropped off again and once you do get him in he is even more terrified of getting out also when she takes him for a walk he approaches every car in hopes of finding his people christiane finds the pup an engaging loveable pet but unfortunately she cant keep him and would like to find him a home her family has already adopted two other dogs an unwanted pigeontoed duck called george and a menagerie of rabbits jutta becker doesnt know christiane but she can sym pathize with her dilemna year after year unthinking people drop unwanted dogs near her house on the 7lh line and year after year she tries tttiind therj a home even though she has her hands full with her own pets mrs becker estimates that she has picked up more than 20 dogs in the last few years and she is furious at people who abandon their pets they just dont seem to wm realize how dependent dogs are she explained i- would be more humane to take him to a vet and say heres 5 put him away many abandoned dogs get run over are shot by farmers or saddest of all die slowly of starvation a few are picked up by kindhearted people like christiane bergauer and jutta becker who try to find them homes both girls are reluctant to hand the strays over to animal control although they notify them because they know that about half of those unclaimed are put down but often the girls have no alter native you just cant save them all said christiane however she and mrs becker keep right on trying rosalin britton an expert belly dancer and teacher from uxbridge planned and performed in the near eastern caravan last saturday night
