the tribune thursday may 4 1978 3 ft charlie lintner retiring st0uffv1lle poles no more work in a repair a busted trans- cher e will be no more freezing ice storm and no former for charlie litner ts stuck up on hydro more all night efforts to charlie who for the f charlie lintner takes it easy on the back of his truck as he relates some cidents about his 20 years on the job with the stouffville puc charlie is tiring from the hydro business next month after his years as meter reader and general lineman he plans to do some gardening and hopes to hravel business id 3 1 it report past 20 years has worked for stouffville puc is retiring next month and will be saying goodbye to those less than savoury aspects of the job however the job hasnt been all bad for him as he has made countless friends over the years and has become a familiar face to those with hydro trouble as charlie who was born and raised in stouffville said its been a great job i like working outdoors- and meeting people although it isnt that great in the winter ice storms are the most dangerous aspect of his job working on hydro lines in cold wet and slippery conditions is quite hazardous luckily he has never been hurt in his work besides the ice storms repairing broken poles is next in line in keeping everyone hop ping charlie who is a general lineman and meter reader com mented that broken poles occur with alarming reularity usually the result of a misguided car or truck the last time a pole broke charlie remem bered it was an all night affair i was called out of bed along with a number of other workers it took us about 12 hours to replace it and the trans former but theres not much we can do about it when something like that happens you just have to get it done however things are a lot easier and safer nowadays as compared to when be first started when i first began charlie related we didnt have any equip ment like we do now we had to dig the poles by hand not machine and to get the transformer up we used a block and tackle now its all done by a couple of trucks not much to it realiy and now all new hydro wiring goes un derground which ac cording to charlie is a lot safer and requires less maintenance than the above ground type eventually charlie expects all of stouffville hydro to be underground although it probably wont happen in my lifetime he said as for ils retirement charlie said hes just going to take it easy for a while ill probably do a bit of work on my gar den he said he also hopes to travel with several places on his visiting list one thing he might miss is his numberous rescues of a certain stubborn feline yeah one cat in particular was stuck up on a pole at least four or five times but i havent seen her in the last few weeks so maybe she finally figured out it wasnt worth going up anymore ville servi famous convertible homelite tillers pre season sale 339 mau xl 2cc with 12 bar carrying case incl xl2 the famous xl2 features the unique twin towns pinball bylaw however they anally made it to the third reading of the bylaw last thursday night at their regular meeting thereby making the restrictions of places of amusement in the township law i the bylaw has been held up by council for a few months as council could not decide just how restrictive they wanted to make it they first in dicated they wanted tough crackdown on such puees then seemed to back down only to revert to their original wishes expressed in the bylaw passed on thursday the bylaw wiu now regulate and licence such puces and will prohibit them from locating on land abutting on any highway or part of a high way in the township there is presently one such place of amusement on brock st and it was concern over this establishment that led to the bylaw the township will now be able to regulate the hours age of players size of the building and number of machines regional councillor gary herrima was concerned that the present pinball shop might be able to expand to the adjacent building but councillor john paxton assured him that the bylaw restricted the operation to their present location with no expansion afterward mr paxton commented that the shop
