267 208 may tryout the ken may juvenile team is holding their softball tryouts this saturday april 15 at 1 pm in ihe town park all those who will be there are requested to bring their gloves and spikes the neil patrick polar bears finished off the season by competing in two tournaments and came away silver medalists both times in the amos tour nament in cobourg along with the silver medallions which each player received awards were presented for the most outstanding players and stoufiville brought home three awards captain tim evans won the most valuable player award along with the award for the most assists goalie bruce fifield brought home the top goalie trophy for bis outstanding netminding in the first game of the cobourg tournament the polar bears jumped right on the scoresheet with three goals in the first period tim evans assisted by kirk smythe and russ beaton sean mcquigge unassisted and lee vautier assisted by bill butler stouff- villes commanding lead faded however with two goals from the picton team in the second period and another at the beginning of the third the winning goal came with a minute and 30 seconds left in the game from a shot by tim evans ending the game 43 for stouffville in the second game the polar bears downed the ajax team 20 giving goalie bruce fifield a well deserved shutout stouffville goals were scored by tim evans assisted by darren stevens and lee vautier assisted by tim evans the championship game of the day proved to be a tighter match against the brooklin- whttby team it was a seesaw battle and ex tremely rough game with regulation play ending with a 11 score the lone stouffville goal was scored by tim evans assisted by bill butler goalie bruce fifield made several good stops thus keeping the 11 tie it appeared the five minute overtime would be scoreless however with 25 seconds left to play the brooklinwhitby team scored to take the first place gold medallions in the uxbridge tournament stouffville also put forth an out standing effort the first game against ajax ended in a 22 tie but stouffville were declared the win ners having scored the first goal of the game goals were scored by lee vautier assisted by kirk smythe and tim evans and russ beaton assisted by sean mcquigge and lee vautier in the second game against port perry stouffville trounced their opponents 50 it was stouffvilles game all the way hot on the goal scoring were kirk arenas 2 paul sinclair 2 and sean mcquigge 1 assists went to paul sinclair lee vautier tim evans and sean mcquigge the third and final game was the most ex citing of the tournament with the game ending 53 for the whitby team goalie bruce fifield played an extremely good game in the net stopping many shots on goal it appeared to be stouffvilles game in first period but whitby came from behind to take the championship goals of the game were scored by mike ferguson kirk areods and- tim evans assists went to tim evans 2 and russ beaton a recognition night brought the stoufiville novice polar bears 58 game season to a close each player was recognized for his con tribution to the team and was presented with an award captain tim evans was presented with a special plaque for combining sports manship and outstanding playing ability which included 73 goals and 36 assists for a total of 109 points for the season coach vern thomson and manager grant nesbitt
