place late friday night feb 3 three persons ere seriously injured when two cars collided at the intersection of highway 48 and bloomington rd mr nauta was westbound on blooming- ton when be collided with a northbound car driven by william cheetham 44 of uxbndge charges are still pending jean nauta mr nauta s mother said her son is convinced the traffic lights at the in- tersection were malfunctioning that evening he is very certain be didnt go through a red light mrs nauta told the tribune since the accident mrs nauta has spoken to two area residents who told her they have noticed irregularities in the action of the lights at that intersection thea hulshof a teller at the stouffville credit union said a week after the accident the lights went from green to yellow and then back to green again tribune employee doreen deacon said she was stopped by a red light at that intersection once and the light didnt turn back to green finally she just drove on bert knight traffic analyst with the ministry of transportation and communications in a telephone interview early this week told the tribune his department has received no com plaints regarding the functioning of the lights mr knight said the ministry had no reason to suspect any malfunction on the part of the signal lights mr cheetham and his 72 year old mother-in- law elizabeth farquhar were both thrown from their vehicle mr nauta who was pinned inside his car was just this week removed from intensive care and taken off intrevenous he suffered pelvis and lung damage but is now- reported to be improving any witnesses to man representing himself as a businessman from manitoba went to the bank of nova scotia at markham in october of 1977 and said he wished to transfer funds from an account in manitoba to that bank because he was setting up operations in ontario on the basis of documents provided by the suspect the bank issued him a cheque book the suspect then issued himself a cheque using an alias and had this cheque cashed at the guaranty trust co in stouffville the cheque was later returned and investigation revealed that the suspect had no account in manitoba to transfer the suspect is presently serving
