markliam fair board members l expect few changes next year the tribune thursday january m 1ws 15 markham the annual markham fair board meeting had an overriding theme to it tarts hope the weather is better in 1978 the meeting held last week saw very little vchange in senior or junior directors although the fair does have its first woman president the past president harvey brown said the oast year has been very challenging with the new location of the i fairground and the extra i tvork such a move entails during the past two years we have changed the location of the fairgrounds and i think weve done a good job weve retained the small country fair but have expanded it at the same ime i think we spread i ur fertilizer well the only problem that marred the opening he said was the weather we expected a lot more people but that was washed away with the weather i only hope we are more fortunate in 1978 the biggest news from the meeting was as always the new president this year it goes to alma walker regional councillor for markham and the first women in the fairs 122 ear history she stepped up into the presidency from her post as first vice president and although she hopes to be able to do a competent job she also reiterated the fact that a large part of the fairs success is out of her bands if the weathers good the fair will be good she commented the senior directors elected are kay thompson mac cosburn len cooper barry little who were all returned new directors this year include scott robinson and bob thompson for junior directors there was only one change from last year as marion norton ralph smalley bui snowball dave hollinger and ed warriner were returned new this year is alf smoth former reeve passes away george richardson prominent whitchurch farmer and former reeve
