asked about her gold- medal victory in the high jump at the legion sponsored ontario summer games recently judy a tall ash blonde with the long legs and graceful stride of a born athlete has been a winner in track and field events since way back in public school and has a whole roomfull of trophies to prove it when youre little they mostly give you trophies and you say wow laughed judy but now its all medals and plaques and sometimes you get tired of them she shrugged and ex plained often you get stacks and stacks of the same plaques and medals judy feels its not the medals that are important but coming out on top when you win you kind of dont care about the medal youre just happy you won you kind of dont care about the medal youre just happy you won s there is one kind of medal the 16yearold sdss student wouldnt mind having though and bob meldrum her coach seems to share her ambition hes looking forward to 1980 says judy mischieviously but her green eyes looked serious as she talked about qualifying for the next olympics only four inches separate her from eligibility in the world event the highest judy has jumped is five feet eight inches but shell have to up that to six feet the rmmmn qualifying height however ch are that judy would cot go for the high jump but the pentathalon its more challenging said judy the pentathalon takes in the high jump long jump ioo meter local track star judy sackfield clears the bar in a demonstration of her impressive high jump skills she won a gold medal recentlv in the jump at the ontario summer games annegret lamure hurdles shot put and 800 meter race although judy won the gold medal in the high jump the long jump in which she won a bronze is really her event she entered fhe former merely as an af terthought since i was going down anyway i thought i might as well be in it she remarked in the past she has- also done well in the 400 meters the hurdles shot put and discus and she is looking forward to refining her skills in these events judy also did very well in the high school track and field meet last year but was sidelined in the midst of competition when she twisted her ankle immediately after recovering from that mishap she sustained a hairline fracture in her leg i was out all bum mer said judy matter- offactly however shes back in full training now more determined than ever after losing all that valuable practice tune to steam ahead im not going to stop said judy and her serious face made it plam that others would find it hard to stop her as well the above girls are from the goodwood squirt
