1 the tribune thursday january 177 j- ft t with the g6 fjttwm frep says that heise burning tve cjanipuesit honour groufmuets centennial- blooniington road is only practical to wn bypass route the provincial government it seems plans to restructure the intersection of bloomington rd and highway 47 sometime next summer properly posted bloomington rd would be ideal as a bypass for stouffville unlike other proposed routes it has an advantage in that it is already a good quality heavyduty road and no expropriation would be required the town line road has frequently been mentioned as a possible bypass but it would take possibly millions of dollars and several years to upgrade- that route at least two bridges would have to be replaced and some sections of the road are not yet paved l rather tfiap have bloomington designated as hnway 47 and take that away from the maui st we would suggest that council prgss the province to have a joint postingjjssllingthem 47a and 47b inihisway the town would still have whatever advantages there are to being j located on a designated provincial highway land would stiufunnel off some of the traffic that is just passing through there arespme advantages to being on the highway for example the province pays for road maintenance and snowplowing expenditures that would ordinarily come out of the town coffers i it is debatable whether this saving makes up for the weekend business lost by the local merchants but a joint posting would seem to provide the best of both alternatives we urge the new council to press the province for adequate posting of bloomington rd the traffic muddle in stouffville is long overdue for some positive action in these times of tight money it seems unlikely the cash would be made available to construct any kind of a bypass making this proposed solution the best viable alternative if- anything constructive is to be ac complished in the downtown area of stouff ville a bypass is absolutely essential good response to 100th opening the tremendous turnout for the first of the centennial year events should be very gratifying to those who have laboured so long in preparation for the various festivities if this positive trend continues the years activities should prove to be an unqualified success o m kvftv ssi 7afst sugar and spice human spirit inflicted on studenh could you write a pungent telling essay on the human spirit in the new year no well thats what my senior students tell me too but i know they are wrong and i think you are wrong also ill bet you could write a dandy especially if you
