panel segment of the show which is beamed around the world is taped at the stouffville youth centre regular panelists pictured above from left to right are dave lawrenson donna milligan winston thurton and terry ratcuff peacemakers legion president ralph norton read the honor roll for those who gave their lives in the two world wars and as the names were called stella macdonald dropped the poppies before the cross in the chancelat the end youthtime radio program passes 25th year by ted wilcox stouffville outside of its immediate vicinity few people have heard the name of stouffvilleright wrong in fact the village of stouffville has become known by hun dreds of people around the world as the location of the canadian youthtime radio program which last week passed its 25th an niversary in broad casting the program which is beamed 23 times weekly around the world is designed to reach youth with the message of christianity and features local young people as panelists in each session produced by don ratcliff of rr 4 jstouffville the broadcast first grew out of youth for christ rallies which were held in the stouffville missionary church the- st james presbyterian church and the second markham baptist now springvale baptist church another outgrowth of those rallys are the youth programs still held each sunday night at the parkside youth centre on the stouffviue gormley road canadian youthtime radio originally involved a onehalf hour magazine type of program with gospel music a seven- minute message and a teen panel discussing some topic rev norman rowan former pastorof the second markham baptist church was one of the early radio preachers for the show in more recent years the program was streamlined to have only panel segments and gospel music co ordinated by an an nouncer dr stephen brown of florida himself a former prizewinning disc jockey acts as the shows announcer and gives a brief windup at each programs end the local panelists meet once a month at the youth centre where they tape four segments and decide on topics for the next taping session panel members are terry ratcliff donna milligan and dave lawrenson all from the stouffville area and winston thurton of toronto theres nothing the matter with sermons says don ratcliff but if you can present a dif ferent type of bait that a station doesnt already have theyre apt to go after it in fact he receives three or four letters weekly from various stations asking to air the show- the problem lies in the fact that the stations all want to be paid each week for broadcasting the program and canadian youthtime has limited funds the us stations which broadcast the program however all dq so free of charge as a public service in canada its another ball game said mr ratcliff you pay for it period youve got to have the money altogether- 18 stations in all broadcast the show new parkview pastor is settling in very well everyone is endeavouring tomake sure he is made cf welcome previously one of hagersville came in to the apartment tenants see mrs a heise and sandra and kathryn donna leibeck of barrie mackechnie of montreal came to visit mr winger mr ratcliff tells of having the show accepted recently on a large rock station in fort pearce florida the station was looking for a program which would make the switch from sermons to rock music a bit less abrupt on sunday mor nings and canadian youthtime fit the bill that station agreed to air the show for no charge the topics covered by the panelists have in cluded everything from dating to bible study to choosing a college a subject being discussed when the tribune visited thestudio last week was that of divorce and a family law solicitor was on hand as a guest panelist the worldwide impact of the program is demonstrated by the places letters have been received from through the years responses have come from india africa australia new zealand europe and- north south and central america five shortwave broadcasts a week go out from hcjb high atop the andes i mountains in ecuador a recent letter came from a man convicted of homicide now residing in a british- honduras prison he requested informauon on how to take a bible correspondence course and asked for a radio so he could listen to the program more regularly the convicted man said his letter had been smuggled out and mailed since prisoners are allowed only to write to individuals not organizations later the man learned he could write to don ratcliff directly and did so most letters received are from young people said mr ratcliff who have been helped with some problem and other correspondents have written saying they have decided to follow christ through the show beverly for the public school former members of claremont baptist
