the chorus for music mania is the backbone of the production not only providing background for solos but also being featured in choral numbers here the finale of the 1976 show as the singers march around the stage and sing when the parade passes by and the shows final song circle round the sky music mania 76 the four dancers provided several numbers this one to yankee doodle dandy sets the scene for the vaudeville portion of music mania- shown here are jane hachey left shirley rehill and diane gunn right a delight to see and hear by don bernard as an evening of music spiced with comedy routines a performance of music mania 76 was hard to beat the show presented last weekend drew on estimated 2100 people to its three per formances asthe name suggests the show provides music and lots of it vaudeville and broadway tunes along with a medley from the wizard of oz mixed withhumorous sketches provide a fine evenings entertainment the show did sport a rather flimsy overall plot uncle sam visits the montreal olympics and decides that he wants canada for his 200th birthday present ivan harris plays uncle sam track coach gord joice comes up with a scheme to try and change uncle sams mind a tribute to american music will show him that he does not need canada thus theshow offers a medley from- yaudevillevwitfidancersstepping through a lively version fof yankee doodle dandy daphne goldman provides a humorous in- r terlude with her version of sweet little buttercup while seated on a swing one treat of the medley was the bar bershop quartet comprised of lome boad- terry foulds left attempts to do her recital while frank mellon and john foulds do a wallpapering job around her it was one way jerry waite jim rehill and chuck harrottc the burns and allen skit featuring- daphne goldman and george hall failed to come off however in fact with a couple of exceptions the music comes off better than the humor in music mania perhaps thats how it should be in a musicalproduction next came a tribute to tin pan alley and some of the great songs of that era one of the highlights of the show was the broadway section under the direction of lome boadway the chorus gave a fine version of somewhere from west side story a skit about king ar thur and sir lancelot as enfeminate knights provided some humor everythings up to date in kansas city ably done by charlie shipp and i cant say no both from oklahoma were also rousing contributions to the show thattsectionwastoppedoffwithmary harris and george young in the welmbiown- soap opera the edge of blight the first half of the show wound up with some rousing basin street music supplied by a- dixieland ensemble the wizard of oz provided a large the country cousins provided their musical interlude they included left to right ted- cadieux bob hassard and lome boadway the three gentlemen high lighted the salute to country music segment of the shows second half and the familiar characters of dorothv scarecrow cowardly lion and tin man came to life the- climax was the song goodbye yeilow brick road an enjoyable part of music mania was the nashville sound section which featured the gordon lightf oot song early morning rain as well as country road both well- done by the chorus the country cousins certainly livened up the proceedings as lome boadway ted cadieux and bob hassard teamed up for some wild bluegrasstype mountain music the theme of the olympics was brought in briefly with the interview by howard cossell george young of montreal mayor jean drapeau charlie shipp the sight of the queen and prince phillip standing in line to use a privy at the games site also provided some humor in the skit entitled in the line up t i j u rvthe finale numbers when the parade passes by and circle round the sky brought the show to a fitting close although for my part the humor failedto hit home on occasions i found myself humming some of the tunes on my way home a sure sign that musically at least music mania provided a full evening the show took in about 3600 forthe three nights proceeds will go to the canadian national institute for the blind jack clements of the barrie cnib was on hand after saturdays performance to accept a cheque v the actual amount donated is counted after all the bills are paid for the show music mania is sponsored by the couples club of stouffville united church romance loathe supermarketas maryj harris and george- blight meet- during athet edge of bllghtvv at right thetwomen- in the chorussing a rousing song they are left fo righojgael bolton sue chewins muriel harper 5 ann bell joanne harris and jane mcdougallx top right jtcharue shipp fexclaimsijthat everythings up to date in kansascityi how he wants canada as his 200th birthday present the show proceeds i demonstrate why uncle sawdoevnot need canada ifi
