the tribune thursday december 111975 s toihe a coin s6rf injustice 99 dear sir seat beltsdo you or jdontybu jtrani them af ter the first of january seat belts are to be compulsory- by the sneakiest and most un- i derhanded way of bringing in legislation jthe governments at- titude before the election was that they didnt think thepeople were ready for vi them at that time but as soon as the election is past and they lare back in power by a 1 very small margin they jxish this thing through the legislature in about 2- 4 weeks with very little public comment and also at christmas time when people are busy and also a postalstrike which has j made communications almost impossible talk i about a snow job what do you think we are i getting from the ministry of transportation and i communications as far as i am con- cerned it is just another way of filling the public treasury at your and my expense because every one of our slaphappy ticket cops will be out to get every person they can find without a seatbdt on if the attitude of the general public follows the same pattern as 95- percent of the people i have talked to in the past two weeks there wont be enough jails in ontario to hold all the people that are against it my opinion and about 95 percent of the people is that if you want to wear your seat belt that is your business but if i do not want to wear mine that is my business i think the government just thought this is a good way to milk a tidy revenue out of the general public with very little effort which would help boost their tidy salaries please look carefully at the accompanying picture this is my truck at les wilsons garage on oct 5 or 6 1958 and in stead of taking the pic ture i would have been either to or going to my own funeral if i had been wearing a seat belt now can you see why i will not wear one for anybody law or no law i will go to jail before paying those sneaking culprits and my attitude is shared by a large number of people in australia where they are compulsory there were 36000 con- victions last year at from 20 to 50 each you see what that does for the treasury- we are ex pecting in the near future to circulate a very large petition to places where there is a lot of public traffic if you are against this compulsory injustice please sign your name address and phone number i am not working alone on this project but- have help from several other areas of the province anyone who has time and is interested in helping promote this effort should call me at 6492332 aylmer carter rr 1 claremont woman feels boats should stay on lake dear sir this letter is in response to your notice in jthe tribune oct 16 i think it is about time this boat question was put in its proper perspective the lake js free of ice for seven months of the year or about 210 days of all these days there are only about six or less depending on the feather when there is any real activity on the lake all of these days are sundays and are people just up for the day i they arrive about jttpon and are away again by 5 so really we are talking about hours of activity very generously about 50 i would take ex ception to the charge that it is not unusual to see a boat towing three skiers it is i know this charge stems from the same person who came up about three sundays in a row and did at times pull about three skiers im sure it was the in discretion of this boater whoever he may be that has caused the present storm in a teacup the accidents mentioned happened over six summers ago surely this in itselfis significant there was in fact an article in the tribune this summer about two young girls swimming across the lake they had no trouble with boats the tribune would certainly have mentioned it if they had the complaint about noise is not really valid the boats are quiet compared to the squealing tires and motorcycles of course as soon as the snow falls the greatest noisemaker of all the snowmobile will be out in full force i have known vern davies for over 20 years and have nothing but great respect for his concern but itmy lake too i know mr davies would be one of the first to v agree if there could be some sort of a com promise solution no members of council live at the lake and it would be very tempting to take the easy way out since no matter what decision they made it would not affect them personally i have a great deal of faithin their in tegrity and they have already shown that this problem is a concern to them my point is that it doesnt seem fair that those of us who have lake frontage anil pay taxes for this privilege should be deprived of the use of the lake because one day out of seven is busy and this is largely due to public launching i would suggest to council that the lake be left alone until they make their own personal study next summer and not have to depend on hearsay and letters i know their time is valuable but it wouldnt take nearly as long as standing m a field counting the biras that fly across the moon joking aside just a spot check now and then would do it marywylie rr2 stouffvilie full 15 day free exchange or your money cheerfully refunded on any room size or area
