is planning to request action on school renovations from york county board of education janet arends of manitoba street who was elected president of the group told the tribune they expect to appear before the board in january when they draw up the 1976 budget i- a meeting of summitview parents wiil be held dec 1 8 pm- at the school to discuss the situation without proper facilities our children are not getting equal education mrs arends said wewant the same as any other school one factor holding off a decision by the board has been the uncertainties of future years with a new school slated in the north of town to ac company the dulverton sub division however mrs arends predicts a new school is at least eight years off i dont feei theres any reason our children should suffer for eight years she proposes the board go ahead with renovating the school adding a new classroom and an auditorium and then continuing summitview in use along with the new school for the north of town mrs arends also feels that by law summitview could be closed because of the fire hazard there earlier this year the on tario fire marshall told the york board that certain renovations were needed to make the school safe the parents group plans to have meetings the first monday of every- month- their primary reason for coming together has to do with the facilities at summitview but another issue they will discuss mrs arends said is getting the grade 8 students back in the public schools she said that keeping summitview in operation along with a- new school would facilitate having grade 8s within the public schools instead of sending them to stouffville dist secondary school the board had- included renovations for summitview in this years budget but it was not a top priority item mrs arends would like it moved up on the yst next year a spokesman for the group will be selected to appear at the first meeting of the board in january and mrs arends says we hope to have strong support from the parents they also plan to attend and voice their opinions at the planning and building com mittee meetings of the board the parents group hopes to persuade members of the board to personally visit cathy joice and eldred king put up a last ditch fight against the bylaw to remove a parking spot from main st at edward st the corner of main and edward streets has been the subject of some controversy as school bus drivers have com plained of difficulty negotiating the corner due to parked cars and poor visibility in spite of the continued opposition the bylaw to remove the parking spot was passed mrs joice said she felt it would make no difference to the sight line she told council she had gone down there in the morning and that a truck was parked further down the street and it still obstructed the view mr king said the problem exists at every intersection in stouffville and he agreed that- removing a parking spot wouldnt help the bus drivers but would only make it more dif- ficult for the merchants there he expressed bewilderment that tractor trailer trucks could go in and out of edward st to make deliveries without ex periencing any difficulties and yet the much smaller buses had great problems it is not ou of line to give them that extraspot rebutted councillor becky wedley she argued it would be hard to find another street in town with that much traffic in the morning and at night mayor jgordonmratcliff suggested the space be used for parking during the summer but there was some doubt as to whether this could be done council will attempt to ban parkingon the spot only for an thour in the morning and an hour i in the afternoon i
