summitview public school are a top priority if be is elected as trustee in the nov 10 elections l in a wideranging interview with the tribune mr mcmurray discussed some of the issues that be feels are important in the current campaign he is facing harry bowes and jennie bangay mr mcmurray was the whitchurch- stouffville representative on the york county board of education for two years before being defeated by colin barrett last year he served five years en the former stouffville public school board and is an educator and counsellor with the north york board of education education is the most important thing we have he said we must give our children the best education we can for the money we have available mrj mcmurray feels that the ross report on board restructuring was intended as an outside opinion only and that the first two installments should have been recycled he feels that consultants reports didnt tell us anything we didnt know- already mr mcmurray said that it was always board policy to allow each principal to set up the adminstration of his own school he denies that the adminstration tells the board what to do it is not true he said the board has the power to tell them the adminstrators what to do it is the boards job to set policy and the directors job to carry it out he said he feels that the board should not be doing the directors job mr mcmurray said that renovations to summitview are top priority and that the people of stouffville have been waiting a long time trustee candidate john mcmurrdy reriovatidn is 6 priority tv af he termed the present basement all- purpose room a concrete tank a general purpose room and resource centre are needed and he hopes to bring the matter to the at- tention of mpp william hodgson it is something you have to pursue he said mr mcmurray felt that 100 per cent in crease in trustee honorarium was too much and feared that tax increases would be steep we dont have as broad a tax base as metro be said and felt that salary increases of 35 or 40 per cent were too high administrative staff should also be present during negotiations according to mr mcmurray to know if you can afford it salary increase or not he emphasized that there are other aspects to the budget besides teacher salaries mr mcmurray felt that master teachers perform an important function especially with new teachers coming on the board mr mcmurray agrees with the credit system but feels that considerable guidance must be given students in choosing subjects that will benefit them i believe people must be prepared to meet the world as it is he said adaptibility is the word mr murray said that various excursions by the students serve to expand their un derstanding of the world mr mcmurray feels he is someone who will help to pull them the trustees together to get on with the business of education we must stand up and face the issues he added the trustee according to mr mcmurray is as important as the mayor he is whit- churchstouffvilles lone representative on the board and the board of education spends 60 per cent of the tax dollars john mcmurray who served as trustee for two years feels that many times the board must get on with the business of education and stop bickering don bernard the color tv ever built by electrohomb 100 solid state the most sophisticated color tv circuitry with 31000 volt chassis for
