stouffville were a volleyball school and were proud of it stouffville dist secondary school coach jim rehill had good reason for that statement as the sdss boys midget junior and senior teams swept the york county finals for the second year running a large crowd turned out for the finals satur day evening in which stouffville faced a woodbridge team on each level of competition the midgets won their best of three series 138 155 while the juniors trounced the opposition 153 154 the senior team romped over woodbridge by 151 and 159 scores rehill said he had expected the midget and junior games would have been closer than they were through the day 90 games were played at sdss with teams from- across the region com peting in each division the two teams with the best records met in the finals the sdss midgets entered the finals with a 100 record while woodbridge was 64 the stouffville juniors were 111 with their opposition standing in at 93 as for the seniors sdss had racked up a 51 record compared with 42 for woodbridge the two schools volleyball seniors win due to quarterback stouffville ever heard of a volleyball quarterback that was roughly the role played by david lang saturday in two decisive wins by the sdss senior boys over wood- bridge the seniors grabbed the york county title with a strategic attack in which lang called the play prior to each serve lang served as the lone setter no matter what position he was on the court with the choice of up to one of three spikers on the front row t he strategy especially helps to diffuse opposing blockers and according to coach pete sanderson lang put it all together in the final sort of like a quar terback volleyball finals veteran juniors down competition stouffville an experienced junior boys volleyball team from sdss gave their opposition little chance in the york finals saturday woodbridge led only once in the two games when they scored two consecutive points at the start of the first contest stouffville then held them at two and poured on eight of their own to make it 82 they allowed only one more point to woodbridge before racing to end the game with a convincing 153 final score the game was ended on a crossourt spike by mike lafleur he also concluded the second game by rifling another spike down the middle stouffville took charge in game two by racking up a 70 score before allowing wood- bridge any points lloyd johnson hammered a variety of spikes as stouffville wound up the game 154 coach jim rehill again pointed out the team nature of the win as accurate bumps and sets allowed the spikers to effectively drill the ball past the opposition uxbridge victorious in soccer goodwood uxbridge public- school was victoriousamong the 12 teams competing at a recent soccer tournament at last year stouffville has picked up nine of the trophies while wood- bridge won four over the years coach rehill places credit for this years wins on a blend of ex perience physical ability and hard work the hard work side of it involves many hours spent in the gym learning the necessary skills the bumps sets and spikes along with various game plans and strategies rehill also gives credit to the informal cheerleaders at satur days finals whoj he said got everybody going coaching the senior team this year has been pete sanderson known to many for his efforts as both softball and hockey coach
