business in a rented room and later moved to ihe present building bon bernard ev and ken wagg closing ends an era stouffville the last of stouffvilles oldtime merchants jeweller ken wagg closes his doors this coming saturday for the last time mr wagg has been in business on the main st i agjnce october of 1945 i t5orn and raised in goodwood mr wagg studies watchmaking in newmarket with a 7 jeweller there before serving for 414 years in the royal canadian air force during world war ii after the war he decided to set up shop in stouffville and began in a room above spoffards dry goods store now the site of the public library he did watch repair work and sold jewellery in february of 1946 he went into the 5 cents to 1 store and there met his wife to be evelyn dougherty who was a cashier on june 26 of that year they were married in the fall of 1946 the waggs moved to their present location on main st beside the bank of commerce in an interview with the tribune mr wagg insisted that his wife managed the store and he merely repaired watches mrs wagg however maintained it has been a team effort the couple said they have no firm plans for the future but feel that they would like to enjoy the relative freedom of not having to open the store every day it ties you down when its a family business mr wagg said he did say that he would like to find some work outside stouffville has changed considerably in the almost 30 years since mr wagg started his business the population stood at 1500 and everybody knew everybody else over the years ken v wagg has been active in the community he was involved in the merchants association and the chamber of commerce and helped organize the first santa clans parade and the first trade fair he nas also a member of stouffville
