received from a group of local young people who asked that they be allowed to use the barn in elgin park they plan to hold evangelistic meetings open to the public and the first such event is scheduled for july 13 those making the request include steven black keith kennedy and donald leek all uxbridge residents and graduates of uxbridge secondary school in a letter read by mr esmonde mr leek said that he and his group recognize a spiritual need in the people of uxbridge and t the surrounding area the question for us is whether or not wejwant to encourage this sort of thing in the park said esmonde we have certain elementsin town that might cause a lot of trouble at this kind of meeting- im sure they know the problem they might run into said councillor eleanor todd she favoured allowing the request on a trial basis only in the course of discussion councillors generally were in favour of allowing the meetings on an experimental basis mayor dr carl puter- bough expressed some concern over the proposed hours mr leeks letter had said the services would start at 9 pm that means it could go on until midnight the mayor said how would you like it if you were down there camping in your tent or trailer and this was going on next door while there was some sentiment in favour of restricting the meetings to the hours of 8 to 10 pm council voted down an amendment to this effect on a motion by councillor bill ballinger it was agreed to allow the meeting on the 13th and another on the 20th without reference to hours a report will be submitted by the organizers before council
