the tribune thursday june 19 1975 3 1 tg mini manpower office finds jobs are scarce f r v t i rae maclaren has an unenviable job this summer in charge of the local mini man power office ensconced at the old library she has the task of trying to find summer jobs for local students ms maclaren reports that jobs are scarce john montgomery stouffville student jobs are very scarce this summer but some relief should be afforded by the towns mini manpower which opened last week the office funded by the local recreation committee is operating out of the old library building and will be open from 830 to 430 from monday to friday the mini manpower office is staffed this year by rae maclaren 20 a relative newcomer to stouffville who hails from edmonton alberta her first week on the job was rather hectic as at the beginning she had no office desk or telephone and it was only after much wrangling she ended up in the old library ms maclaren has been busy since then contacting everybody who hired a student through mini manpower last year she says the response from local businesses has not been encouraging a lot of places just cant afford to hire students this year she told the tribune she is hoping a lot of people will phone in with requests for casual work such as gardening painting and window washing i dont think every 15 year old kid wants to work all sum mer she explained many of them just get bored and something to do she expects to have some problems as many of the students have no work experience but many employers still require references what references can you give when people have never worked before she asked the high unem ployment rate this year she feels will not make her job particularly harder in her opinion students will not be competing with people looking for steady work as the jobs students will be getting are of a seasonal nature and too low paying to interest older people as a recent student herself ms maclaren has a sympathetic un derstanding of the problems faced by students and young people in general in todays job market ms maclaren will want begin her college career this fall she has enrolled at the king campus of seneca college in a visual arts course any persons needing an employee or a job can phone 6401867 or go in person to the old library building make 34ton bales save time and labor new international 241 bigroll baler hi
