the municipality has ap plied to the ministry of housing for funds under the ontario home renewal program this program which is to run for three years provides three dollars per capita per year to municipalities to loan out to homeowners in lower income brackets this year the town will receive approximately 35000 with a slightly higher figure in the next two years dependingon the population the most attractive part pf the scheme is that up to 4000 is forgiveable on the maximum loan of 7500 the interest rates are geared to income with a maximum ofeight per cent and the term of the loan is 15 years but in special cases can be ex tended to 20 years this is really a good program and we shouldnt pass trustee pushes hard iokiiejeddjoiions if p ttfzx-iy- r vv stouffville trustee colin barrett is continuing his fjght to havemajor renovations approved for summitview publicschool to that end he has appeared before the york county board of educations planning and building committee in order to get some action he told the committee that the capital expendituregranted by the proviriciapgovernment was inadequate the total grant t is 698000 only20 per cent of what the board felt was needed for capital expenditures in 1975 the iboardwhadaskedfor 3872do6vhe also told k the committeethaithe summitview renovationsshould be given top priority the committee iis to approach jhemihistry of education on thetpoints raised by mr barrett it up commented councillor becky wedley when she in troduced the resolution to apply for the program a ministry of housing of ficial connected with the program told the tribune the scheme is designed to bring housing up to reasonable safety and living standards and could not be used for anything cosmetic the main purpose of the plan according to the official is to stop the loss of housing at the other end of the scale due to its falling into disrepair and being abandoned thus further aggravating the housing crisis any less than loan- but ween 11 have to repay at the maximum interest anyone earning under 6000 could receiveup to 4000 forgiveable not repayable and a family earning under 3000 would pay jio interest at all on the loan portion the plan is to be ad ministered by the municipality which would hold a mortgage on the home which would come due if the house was sold the town building inspector would estimate the cost of renovations and contractors would then bid on the job the contractor closest to the estimate gets the job by ted wilcox stouffville all is not peace at the governmentrun senior citizens apartments on elm road-
