knocking on the door of tie stouffville minor hockey association seeking admittance but without success now it appears theyre going to go it alone even to organizing a house league that could include up to 75 players two hours a week joanne steel manitoba street stouffville outlined her plans before a meeting of the town recreation committee feb 20 she said the age range could extend from 12 to 20 years with the majority in the 13 and 14 year bracket obtaining ice time she agreed would be the biggest problem she placed this cost at 1680 plus equipment 527 and pucks 1250 with registration and fundraising 1200 the difference was estimated at 885 cliff dunkeld a committee member spoke in support of the application theres no reason why hockey should be only a boys sport the equipment is the same and the rules are the same theres very little for girls to do around this town during the winter months and he added with a smile dont be surprised if they outdraw some of the boys teams mr dunkeld felt it wise to start at the house league level and later if enough girls were interested organize an allstar team he said he knew of at least 40 girls at the high school who were anxious to play mrs steel said she had approached several on the street and all were enthusiastic she felt some arrangement might be worked out whereby the equipment in the boys leagues might be borrowed when not in use councillor eldred king agreed i dont see how they could refuse if they werent using it at the time an amount of 885 as requested was added to the committees prelimi nary budget stouffville registration fees as required for membership in the stouffville figure skating club are too high town recreation committee agreed at a meeting feb 20 a larger municipal grant would lower the rate and enable more children to participate they felt mrs peggy topping club chairman and mrs cathy sutherland agreed that membership would increase if the fee was lowered right now said mrs sutherland its toe- much like a private organization that caters only to parents with money its not fair mrs topping said membership should be within the financial means of everyone we feel it serves a good purpose in the community but at pre sent it caters too much to a selected few the fee is 40 regular and 20 for pre school membership this year is about 175 the clubs 1974 budget showed 10000 for ice rental including carnival nights professional fees are 3000 total expenditures were estimated at 1429000 on the receipt side registration fees bring in 6000 power skating 1500 patch fees 1600 and fundraising 2500 the committee recommended that a sum of 4800 be included in the 74 recreation budget to lower registration rates and increase the membership mrs topping thanked members for their consideration 1 an adequate first paving requires a sixinch excavation which is then filled with crushed and compacted lime stone to a depth of four inches to this two inches of compacted asphalt is added 2 for a severely cracked older driveway a good job requires that the old asphalt be completely removed before backfilling with four inches of compacted crushed limestone after this two inches of compacted asphalt is added j for a rccapping job where minor cracks have ap peared a layer of asphalt over the original driveway is sufficient the contract before signing any residential paving contract re member never sign a blank contract this amounts to signing a blank cheque i make sure the contract includes full details and specifications of the job to be done read and understand all terms and conditions before signing make sure all verbal agreements are written into the contract verbal agreements rarely stand up in court delete any terms in the contract you find unacceptable and make sure that both parties initial the change get a firm date for completion of the work if there are still unacceptable conditions or terms dont sign learn how to say no make sure the contractors name and address are in cluded in the contract never pay more than ten percent of the total cost as a downpayment dont be fooled with the offer of a lengthy guarantee a guarantee is only good for as long as the company remains in business ommtu mmnry of cmmir om 11 w x
