she is a claremont resident displaced by the airport and has been ouspoken against it we know there are four million empty air craft seats crossing the atlantic every year she said why then does the liberal government persist in planning new airports all over the countryside family life centre course offered by anita snow i am able to communicate with skill a new- awareness with a joyous revelation speaking is a new- experience for baby humans its a slow process for some to get the tongue teeth lips voice all coordinating the right way so that others can understand this was my feeling as i entered into a communication skills program a few weeks ago our leader tried to put us at ease as each of us entered the room which schooled us in the use of a method so designed that if used properly we would not lose we made out name slips for ourselves so that at least we could be identified and bridge the gap of being strangers as our leader spoke and drew diagrams on the board to explain a method devised by dr thomas gordon for effective parent training familiar sounding words came out very non- threateningly to describe the qualities we would like our offspring to have when they finally mature how to promote these qualities this was the question active listening says dr thomas gordon and i will help you learn said jan berger our leader suddenly i was part of the group as an ob server as a sender as a receiver messages were becoming clearer as a result of this wonderful active listening but the response i became aware that i felt i was learning a new language a glimmer of the me inside was beginning to come out did i want the others to know the real me panic i was able to communicate my panic to another and she communicated back and then what we were beginning to catch on problem solving whos problem is it this question was asked repeatedly by jan as a for instance type of situation was presented and reenacted by some playing the parts of children and others the would not be as effective if i gave it as it was not my problem the skill ot fitting the problem with the person who had it was beginning to belong in my understanding each of us contri buted a list of values which were written on the board and an open discussion came forth we broke in groups and played out problem solvingre parentchild regarding values after this exercise some of us voiced that the values we thought were important to us had suddenly become very meaningful to us indeed still others felt that they could tolerate and accept others whose values were not the same as theirs it wasnt a surprise when someone in the group stood up and said i feel ive known all of you all my life instead of only three short days the rest of us agreed without hesitation l com- and we had municated parent a revelation learned together a skill all the problems arent that we and every human mine the solution possesses i ontario scholar receives con from former princi principal kenneth
