here shortly mr hincks is an area manager for travelways limited markham murdich maciver coowner of markham florist limited with his son donald passed away friday in scarboro general hospital at the age of o7 mr macivers connection with the florist business dated back to 1945 he first worked for nick schoutcn and later operated maciver florists with his son until 1962 when the markham florist firm was pur chased mr maciver had resided in the markham area since 1940 he was one of ontarios leading trainers of thoroughbred horses assisting such wellknown breeders as harry addison charles hemstead hrbain harry hatch and whwright he was an associate member of the markham dist veterans association mr maciver was an enthusiastic out- doorsman enjoying the sport of fishing in his later years surviving is his wife theresa eight children donald earl joyce kav paul gloria flora and brian and nine grandchildren cremation followed the funeral service monday aug 20 visit grandparents at age 92 stouffville the immaculate home and garden that beiinged to margery mertens duchess street stouffville will never seem the same for margery that was her life her home and her garden and she gave them her greatest care and attention margery mertens passed away aug 14 in york county hospital newmarket after several months of declining health she was admitted there earlier this summer and never returned to the place she loved so much margery mertens was of strong pioneer stock and often spoke with pride of her ancestral background she grew up as a girl just west of the old village the daughter of joseph and emmaline mertens the property known as maple farm was settled by the mertens family about 1834 and history records that a meeting to establish stouffvilles first christian church was held at the mertens residence aside from the two years she lived in north markham margery mertens retained a close connection with stouffville moving to town with her father about 25 years ago the horticultural society was one of her main interests and she attended meetings regularly she served as secretary of the organization in stouffville thirty five years her floral entries were consistent winners at local shows she was skilled at making quilts and rugs that found ready sale to persons who recognized their quality she was also an excellent clothesmaker for quite a number of years margery was a member of the tribune staff working on the north side of main street and later at the present office site she handled the local and personal section of the newspaper a weekly chore she enjoyed in addition to this she would always call the papers editor during nighttime hours when the fire siren sounded a service she performed up to the time she was admitted to hospital she was a member of the stouffville missionary church surviving are four nieces and nephews ivan goudie stouffville eleanor mrs mervin bunker altona helen mrs donald davis georgetown and donald goudie st john
