at 391 elm road teaches in north york he is married and the father of three children sean 10 janet 7 and shelley 5 his schooling took place in his birthplace tornto and in orillia the candidate graduated from the university of toronto john mcmurray has been on the stouffville board of education for the past three years and served as its isoc representative prior to the york county takeover he is past first principal of the royal arch masons in orillia and is active in the stouffville anglican stuart starr church because the board is expected to deal with education mr mcmurray feels that someone with a background in this field is a natural choice he ad ded having worked in both the classroom and the boardroom i have an understanding of both sides of the picture a pre requisite for any fair decision education is my business and anything involving education in volves me candidate is whitchurch native whitchurch- stouffville a farmer and a resident on his whitchurch township farm all his life stuart starr seeks election to a ward 1 seat mr starr 43 works 92 acres purchased by his grandfather in 1903 he has three girls and one boy two attend at highlands school and one at vandorf a director of the whit church federation of agriculture for 20 years he has served three years as president and 3 as secretary he was a member of the york county public schools consultative committee during its four year existence and served 2 years as vicechairman an actiyjejnember of the quakgiaur mr starr is a member of the board of trustees of the yonge sweet meeting murray henderson candidate ward 5 jim and veronica jongeneel daughters elizabeth anne and suzanne and pet labrador vim are pictured here outside their home near thornhill mr jongeneel is a candidate for the local and regional council in the new town of markham area afeet markham although murray henderson has been prominent in com munity affairs for many years this is the first time that he has sought public office for the last 18 years he has owned and operated the markham planing mill with the recent sale of this business he feels that he can now spend the time necessary to be an effective representative for ward 5 mr henderson was born in grey county farmed for a period after his marriage and went from there into the farm implement business he moved to church street in markham in 1943 when he purchased markham dairy he and his wife ruth have two children fern mrs grant maccannell and len in the 27 years he has lived in markham he has been actively concerned with the progress and betterment of this com- munity he served on the public school board for 8 years from 1943 1951 and markham district high school board for 9 years from 1955 1964 he was keenly aware of the lack of recreational facilities in markham and willingly served as chairman of the fund raising and building committees of both the markham swimming pool and markham arena he is a member of the markham york hospital board and the town of markham planning board in addition he has found time to spend twentyseven active years in the markhamunionville lions club it would be difficult to find an aspect of com munity service in which murray henderson has not been involved the federal government recognized this fact in 1967 when he was awarded a centennial medal for outstanding community service the past seven years which mr henderson has spent as a member of the planning board have taught him that controlled planning and development are very necessary to achieve a balanced tax base mr henderson is par ticularly interested in the structure of assessment he believes that land should be assessed at its present rather than its potential value and that the assessment shift from commercial and industrial to residential should be reversed with regard to his continuing interest in recreation mr henderson is aware that our present facilities are not adequate for the expanding growth in our community he also
