of hwy is peace at any price ls inflation ml frigidaire f sales a service from the ministers study by vg shlllington in june our church carried out a visitation program we called it operation opinion the aim was to make contact with people who had little or no connection with church and to gain their opinion on religion in general and chirstian f ath in particular the response was interesting and helpful on the question of denomination most people maintained that there were not too many denominations in canada everyone should have the freedom to express his religion according to his convictions several said the church is on the way out this knowledge was clearly secondhand since they haont been in church for years most of the people we talked to acknowledged that christ was divine in some way but they were not quite sure why everyone owned a bible but few read it the response that fascinated me was the one concerning suffering in the world its an old one that scarcely ever receives an adequate answer cs lewis an outstanding british educator wrote a book before he died on the problem of pain he delves into the subject with brilliant aptitude if this question troubles the reader and he is earnest about it then he should hunt up that book by lewis meanwhile let us consider a couple of ideas does man allow pain does he also cause it is he in a position to question a higher power on the pain problem lets say then that we are in that position to raise our tiny voices to heaven and inquire there why all the suffering being in that position means that we ourselves do not allow or inflict this evil known as pain we must be eood deonle and we must seek the good of others so we question god but is it true that we do not cause pain emotional and physical what about the bloody wars civil and uncivil who is to blame what about the accidents that cause suffering and death can god be held accountable for faulty construction drunk driving drug traffic student riots vd before we question god on the subject of suffering lets make sure man himself is completely free from guilt but why do the righteous suffer you say may i suggest that you ask them they have first hand experience on the matter which i do not ask the man who will be writing this article for the next few weeksmr tarr is one of the most gracious men i have met ask him as he sits in his wheelchair why the righteous suffer teacher to ethiopia stouffville mr hawthorne avenue stouffville leaves july 5 for ottawa where he will join a group of twelve teachers from all across canada at
