development study pickering township rules decision shambles pickering twp pickering township council has condemned paper no 3 by the sub committee of the million dollar oshawa area planning and development study councillors are ap palled and as far as councillor ron chatten is concerned the report is just a shambles as far as pickering townships place in a region is concerned the area north of the fifth would be of north and north an oshawa concession comprised pickering whitby in region a line drawn diagonally from the western ex tremity of the 5th con cession to fairport ex cluding bay ridges and stretching along the lakeshore eastward to the eastern boundary then north to the fifth con cession would be the ajax oshawa region there is nothing left but the western boundary from the corner of the 5th concession south to the east side of frenchmans bay this including the urban areas of west rouge bay ridges and west shore dunbarton and cherrywood is for metropolitan toronto reeve john williams has written a letter to the minister of municipal affairs and council has endorsed it in it he pointed out that the division of the township robs almost every asset that council had struggled to achieve over the last 20 years and that it the report was not worth the paper it was written on to an oshawa region goes the nuclear plant he wrote but to pickering comes the disadvantages and in conveniences and possibly dangers from it to oshawa goes the industrial area- the township- arena the fire hall it removes the 575000 filtration plant the sewage outfall pipe into the lake it would place the new municipal building in the town of ajax which is already paying for its own it removes pickerings centennial park and museum the greenwood and claremont con servation areas the land fill sites the post office now under construction the whitevale brougham and claremont libraries williams said that time could have been saved by not contributing to the opads study in which they had patiently par ticipated he felt that consideration should be given to abandoning the study cutting off the viability was a preposterous suggestion was councillor don kitchens observance and an insult to his in telligence bay ridges he said would be robbed of any potential of where one would want to live councillor vic rudik was amazed that a fellow professional could come up with this kind of abortion and said that the com mittee could not have studied land use maps he said he didnt care to associate himself with this kind of proposal this report confirms our worst fears was the comment by councillor ron chatten we were persuaded to enter the study because con- police salaries settled stouffville after nine meetings the police salary schedule and working agreement for 1970 has been finalized deputyreeve jim mckellar revealed thursday night members were also informed that an agreement had been reached too with the police chief it is worked out separately from the of ficers no figures were released sideration would be given to our point of view he said it was obvious it was not being considered this is merely an attempt to justify a decision made prior to the com mencement of the study councillor john kruger spoke of the ghost who hadnt rattled its chains metro toronto he said that chairman ab camp bell was quoted as saying that the south west corner of the township should be part of the metro region before that he said the whole of the township reeve williams said that mr campbell had told him he didnt know where that report came from and that his position still was that all of the township should be part of metro councils first move will be to ascertain the position of metro toronto and that of ajax they could not accept a report that contained none of the financial im plications of the proposed region council endorsed the reeves letter to the minister but a great deal they felt hinged on what metro toronto councils final position was councillor jean mc- pherson said along with the other councillors that she had no objection to the reeves letter being sent but when asked if she supported it she only repeated her statement i have no objections to this letter going forward thursday april 30 1970 the tribune page 15 wooooeoeo village of stouffville notice dogs running at large many residents object to the fact that dogs are offices the cooperation of owners of dogs is requested in the best interests of all concerned r e corner clerk the secretary for an ottawa mp what its like by aiana lascelles ontario riding this week i am going to do something i have wanted to do for quite some time i am replacing mr cafiks ottawa report with one of my own telling you what it is like to be his secretary maybe i am living a little dangerously as mr cafik doesnt have any idea of what i am going to say and maybe i wont even have a job when i am finished but i just cant resist i have great con fidence in my boss honesty and i dont really think he will mind me being frank and open with our constituents first of all i would like to tell you people that being mr cafiks secretary is not an easy job i think you could even call it hectic most of the markham band welcomes members markham the markham band that made a very successful debut as a part of the melody- makers barbershop harmony night in february is looking for hew r at present the group includes 15 regulars of all ages practices are held every thursday evening at 8 pm in the markham high school all players are nonunion amateur musicians or music students who have access to instruments their own music stand and can read music the purpose of the band is to serve as a source of fulfillment for the players and secondly to provide public entertainment there is no membership fee persons in the area wishing to become in volved in this musical organization are asked to contact the director gyil kidd at 2941339 time but it is ever so in teresting mr cafik is a demanding person to work for and at times i get a little weary of it all then i stop to think and i realize that he isnt being demanding for himself but for his constituents somehow that thought always makes me feel a little better i think the nicest thing about working for mr cafik is his terrific sense of humour which i hope will shine forth when he gets hold of this report dont get me wrong now he isnt always funny as a matter of fact you could even say he is quick to get angry but his virtue of quickly getting over his anger offsets this there are a number of times when things become very tense in the office when 10 things have to be done immediately and both of us are on edge with mr cafik raising his voice and demanding something then the humour of the situation will strike one of us and we will be able to have a laugh about it and the work gets done much more easily rr couple honored by lillian jamieson balsam mt zion a number of ladies gathered at the john sherin home sunday afternoon and presented terry and his fiancee miss judy macandrews with a miscellaneous shower prior to their marriage may 30 mr and mrs ken stick- wood were surprised recently when they were visited by a community chivari party export pi m filter regular and kings after that i am sure you people must realize that mr cafik gives his all to being a member of parliament this is not always easy for a secretary as he expects all correspondence to be looked after immediately which is not always possible mr cafik expects a lot from a secretary which he doesnt always get i suppose and at times the pressure is really great i guess i must have a sense of humour too because it usually all works out in the end please dont think i am complaining im not really i do enjoy my work and probably wouldnt change it for anything it just helps to be able to let off steam once in awhile i can just hear some of you reading this saying but shes got it made during a recess believe it prnot 1 donpt have it made during a recess i spend that time trying to get caught up on things my employer doesnt know i have left undone i also use this time for things such as filing and constituency calls which often get far behind then of course there is still correspon dence to be looked after and mr cafik always keeps in touch via the good old telephone so really things arent much dif ferent during a recess than when the house is sitting in closing i would like to add that i think mr cafiks constituents are very lucky mr cafik fights for what he believes in and drives himself as well as win up
