like to think of themselves and their philosophy as original they seem to think that the members of the establishment have been sitting in the dark all these many years unwilling to face the truth its rather difficult to arrive at hippi truth when you think youve found it something else comes up to squash it of course thats the whole idea if their truth is evasively concealed from the out group so much the better lor their truth it appears to me that the abbreviated philosophy of the hippi world would read the best things in life are free in any case i do not intend to devote this space to a discussion ol hippies and their faith i do want to point out though that the seemingly new thing i not new at all the original hippi used to park his horses and pitch his lent on vacant space near the irish homestead where i was raised these people were called gypsies th gyps were not merely people who re belled against the establishment they were a race of people and i suppose still are whose background is hindu they have dark skin and usually maintain long dark matted hair their whole idea ol life is quite parallel to the hippi philosophy the gvpsies i know in my youth were friendly folk who lived and let live they had no abiding city in fact they deplored city life so they took to the country alter living on the roadside for a week or two they would move on how did they hyc 1 like to think that most gypsies lived honestly i mean that in a relatively loose sense they made nicknacks and sold them to the neighbors this practice along with their more dishonest fortunetelling provided them with sufficient money to buy their simple grocer ies obviously their overhead was low they had no rent to pay no gas to buy no house to build their horses pastured on the unclaimed roadside i should mention one group that came by that made the headlines in the local paper these were thieves in the strictest sense unlike the regulars they were lazy anil sought to live off the estab lishment hippies owe their idea of life lo the gypsies whose true origin is hindu the only noticeable innovation in the hippi ghetto is open rebellion and violent demonstration one last word all of us need lo remember the christian message appeals to all kinds of people in all areas of life the living christ has some thing to say to the hindu and the hippi as well as the established church member mometax
