ps- 10 the tribune thursday nov 28 1968 clippers crush peewees win thriller haliburton stouffville the stouffville peewees have done it again this time they won a cliffhanger over uxbridge by a score of 65 wayne norton provided the dramatic moment when he broke the 55 deadlock with one minute and fifty seconds remain ing in the game this club will bring a lot of hockey glory to stouffville over the next few years if they stay to gether during the past few weeks they have been showing that they possess the most important ingre dients of success power balance and a winning at titude their most obvious strength is their ability to skate a prerequisite of the highest order in hockey also they have scoring power that lies not with one or two superstars but with almost the entire front wall their forwards check as well as rush and their rearguards rush as well as check and in the nets they have a cool goalie rather than one of the hot and cold variety this spells balance most important of all they ar willing to give that little extra to be the winner perhaps a bit tired after a 90 victory over picker ing the previous night the igas watched the ux bridge crew score the first four goals before making their debut on the score board in such a situation a medicore team might lose heart but not so with stouffvilies peewees they came on strong to over come the defecit and as a result of three goals in the final five minutes retained their undefeated record tom newton for ux- brfdge carried his team by scoring four of the visitors five goals if there was a turning point in the game for stouffville it was in the third period when newton who had dominated the play received a penalty the locals connected se conds later and then rap ped home another pair be fore the final buzzer don campbell produced a stellar performance but some of the glory must be directed to mike whiteman who set up all three of campbells goals kevin barrick also had a good night and was credited with two markers for the losers bernie aldred con tributed a single markham tiebreaker nyork heartbreaker markham there was no early exodus from the markham arena last friday night the reason a 33 stalemate that wasnt resolved until 1828 of the third period gra ham wise released the ten sion with the tiebreaker and the north york heart- breaker this culminated a fine display of hockey talent of mr wise who had previously scored two of the junior bs three goals penalties were strong factors in the scoring as four goals came on power plays two for each club markham was guilty of blind passing throughout much of the first period and scrambles in front of each net caused many anx ious moments in the se cond in the final frame the local crew found their wind their legs and their target and had the edge in play generally it was an evenly contested game with graham wise making the difference in mark- hams favor in the opening stanza graham wise gave cause for local cheers as he chalked up an early goal from steve vickers and barry head north yorks peter turney evened the count two minutes later john good and graham wise lived up to their names in the second period as they each scored to bal ance the board 22 goal number three for markham was set up by george shields and steve coates for ron aston then rick miller got the equal izer for the visitors the suspense grew until graham wise teamed with bill grant and steve vick ers for the winner jim witherspoon who is always consistent on de fence once again turned in a fine effort in thwarting the north york attackers brampton
