passing sept 8 of joseph gordon lunau 16th avenue markham rr 2 mr lunau a district drover for 41 years was active to the day he died he would have wanted it no other way for he had been active all bis life mr lunau was a descen- dent of staunch pioneer stock dating back to 1794 when his greatgreat grand father joachim lunau ar rived in markham town ship and settled on 200 acres of crown land at lot 14 cone 2 august 20 1804 joachims son john ja cob donated the lot where the bethel lunau ceme tery is now located at cone 5 in 1886 his greatgrand father joseph lunau bought property at lot 17 cone 8 from henry crosby j gordon was born on this farm march 16 1903 son of reuben lunau and mar garet mccall his great- great grandfather on his mothers side was george bell uncle of alexander graham bell founder of the telephone gordon lunau attended school at ss no 16 mount joy after attending the to ronto business college he was employed as an esti mator with w j mcguire plumbing on his return to markham he worked as a clerk and delivery man at percy wilsons store in locust hill he started up as a drover in 1927 mr lunau was an ardent sports fan particularly hockey and horse racing he served on the executive of the markham million aires for several seaosns he was president of the markham fair board in 1954 and on the board of directors over 25 years he was a charter member of the markham unionville lions club and a member of niomi lodge no 116 ioof for 39 years a 25 year jewel was a proud possession he was also a gordon lunau 16th avenue markham known and lifelong liberal in politics in the early 1930s mr lunau served as an assist ant on the markham vil lage police department with harry johnson the chief at that time was jim my walker he was a live stock valuator for the township of markham for many years surviving besides his wife the former aileen lewis is one son john at home mr and mrs lunau were married august 29 1929 and celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary recently the service sept 11 from the dixon funeral home markham was one of markhams largest in dicating the respect held for the deceased in the community the more than 100 floral arrangements were most
