pkr 12 the tbiblne thuixtay auje 1 1968 bruces mill conservation area attracts thousands this summer on a recent sunday afternoon in july an estimated 7000 persons visited the bruces mill conservation area west of stouffville in mark- ham township a portion of the huge crowd is pictured here staff photo editors mail the 0the1j side mr jim thomas editor the tribune after reading two let ters in last weeks paper condemning the use of the accident scene on page one of the previous issue i feel 1 must write if only to let you know that all your readers do not think this way first let us consider the photographer he was cov ering an unfortunate acci dent not because he likes to do this he would much rather cover a happy event like a golden wed ding or the like however accidents are news and he is paid to cover all news worthy events good or bad while there he observed this scene full of human emotion and the axiom a picture is worth ten thous and words still holds true since the photojournalist is trained and paid to get such a scene on film he did just that true it is not the kind of picture you would hang in your living room but to the photo- journalist it is a good pic ture an acquaintance said to me why would they print it my retort was then and still is why not surely there is no thing to hide when i first saw the picture i was bud norton active in community claremont the claremont community lost one of its most active vil lage residents in the death july 25 of william bud norton following a heart attack mr norton had only re cently been released from uxbridge cottage hospital where he had been a pa tient 2ms months he was 52 mr norton was born on the family farm near cop- pins corners uxbridge township the son of the late joseph norton on june 28 hockley whitby t w o brothers levi and ross and one sister evelyn are de ceased mr- norton was a veteran of world war ii serving a period of four years in the canadian army while claremont retain ed its police village status mr norton served as a trustee and worked excep tionally hard for the good of the community and its residents he will be sadly missed by all who came to know him as a good neigh bor and friend rev george davison legion padre conducted the service from the mc- eachnic funeral home pickering on sunday after noon july 28 at 330 pm it was widely attended and deeply moved here was a person i know with a justifiable expression of anguish perhaps even terror beside the still form of her mother i did not feel 1 was gaping or seeing something i should not see i felt only sym pathy for her and the rest of the cowie family sure ly many more felt this and i dare say many whispered a prayer oh yes it is true a tragedy had taken place and i along with many others probably including the photographer would like to have changed this- but god in his infinite wisdom has not granted us this power as well as sympathy i felt a good feeling yes even from this picture because there was some one there obviously try ing to comfort mrs her bert though that neigh bour probably felt quite helpless at the particular moment she was there do ing her best this made me feel good down deep inside there is another aspect which i hesitate to men tion but feel must be said from this picture i could see the anguish and pain that can result from a small error in judgment or whatever yes what if it happened to me what if i had been the driver of the truck oh yes many things came to my mind and i for one will use a bit more caution because of that picture true the lesson may not last long in many minds including my own but if that pic ture saves even one life through its message it will be well worth the uproar township of uxbridge p 583068 ontario the ontario recondition used cars well you might say its a matter of opinion opinion among car dealers varies with their long term objectives if the dealers objective is a fast turnover that will brighten nis profit picture now then the lower selling price of a car on which he has spent no money is most desirable if his longterm reputation with his customers is uppermost then the costs of reconditioning for the sake of customer satisfaction will be money well spent even though the immediate result may be a higherpriced used car there are two kinds of used cars however that most dealers will agree on as not requiring any ex pense to ready them for resale one is a car in such exceptionally good shape that its next owner is assur ed of reasonably troublefree service the other is a car that is too far gone in either age or condition to make the reconditioning expense economically wise in that event the dealer will need as low a selling price as possible if lie is to retail the unit most quality dealers favor reconditioning their used cars that justify the expense and wholesaling the problem cars that wouldnt ultimately return the money spent on them there is a twofold advantage in this reliable used cars earn a dealer customer recommendations through wonlofinoiith approval they are also much more likely to find a ready market in the distrust- ridilcn used car market markham chrysler
