year old markham twp girl has advanced to the finals of the miss toronto competition blonde carol payne daugh ter of mr and mrs harry payne 19th avenue was selected out of 43 entries in a contest conducted at thorncliffe plaza the finals will be held on the grandstand stage of the canadian national exhibition grounds july 20 a graduate of winston churchill collegiate carol will enter the uni versity of toronto in the fall she is presently employed at houstons drug store in stouffville to be entered in the contest was as much a surprise to carol as ad- vancing to the finals her brother put her name in as a kind of dare and she accepted the challenge she has two brothers harry and jim and one sister joan mrs robert pickens of scarboro carol is an allround girl she has her own riding horse northern jet and her hobbies are playing the organ swimming and skiing the payne family moved to markham twp two years ago and occupy a lovely ranch- style bungalow between concessions 6 and 7 i
