candidate in on tario south riding has an nounced that premier john robarts will swing into the riding sat oct 7 more than 2000 persons will be present at the an- nandale golf club for an afternoon reception it will be a highlight of the newman election cam paign dear sir i was amazed and anger ed when reading the head line in your newspaper of september 14 that one of our council members recommends the abolishing of our police force and in their place use the opp may i ask how the opp working out of oak ridges will be able to check the doors of business establish ments at night control parking during the day answer all calls during the day and night and be able to do this within the 5 min utes it usually takes our police rush emergency cases to doctors or hospi tals if an ambulance is not available check homes while occupants arc on vacation and just by this act alone save the life of a gentleman a few weeks ago and what about the gangs that converge on areas that do not have a police force and start a lot of nonsense when they know the law wont be on their backs these are only a few of the things that i am posi tive a bylaw enforcement officer could not and would not be able to take care of in his capacity and that sn opp officer with a large area to patrol could not and would not iiva the time due to the shortage of men and cars the 335000 saving to the town is a pipe dream firstly you will not hire a bylaw enforcement offic er for under 6000 then he must be supplied with a car office space office equipment telephone if you want more than an 8 hour day out of him he will have to be paid for over time as for the opp be ing supplied free that is another dream for surely premier robarts is not pay ing for this service out of his pocket all it means is that there will be higher provincial taxes over which we have no control the councilman who brought up this motion does not need the protec tion of our police force since he does not reside in our town anymore i do know one thing however i do live in stouffvillc and i do want our police force to protect my family as well as my property what we pay for this protection in our taxes is cheap at any price and i sincerely hope that there arc some members of council who agree with me if this is not the case then this is a matter to be brought up for the people to vote on at the next municipal elec tion sincerely c w kamps 370 rupert avenue stouffville ontario the arrivol of the family of four miraculous escape in train car crash vandorf a new market family of four were seriously injured
