entries captur- d top honors many of the competitors were adults but it was the vids who won the awards that was the story of the all- forfree talent contest sponsored by the stouffville- kinsmen club and held in the park sunday afternoon the weather was perfect for the occasion and the pro1 ram attracted an enthusiastic crowd 1 doc brown supported by instrumentalists mike t mccarthy robert danlelis and a pair of hometown go- o girls donna gibson and debbie foulds hit 1000 in the ipplausc meter runnersup were ann and gloria smith jf sandford lixbridgc township they presented an ac- z ordian duet including the very appropriate number whispering hope honorable mention went to stouff- tiles own rodney bond ninth line north other en- ries who shared in the prize money were gordon hen- icrson and the horizons bud herbert and bob j brown of bloomington bill yakc of baldwin frank steele jr ninth line north stouffvillc and mrs nor- ma jean herbert bloomington the judges were kins- t ncn ross hctherington alex wilkins and mickey hunt orm faulkner was master of ceremonies a feature of the show was bill johnson and the country showman who gave liberally of their talent both before and after the contest on sunday night they performed as the backup band for hank snow at rock hill park official opening large sunday this jrroup of five teenagers stole the show in the sunday afternoon talent competion sponsored by the slouffville kinsmen club in the park members are donna gibson 13 debbie foulds 13 mike mccarthy robert danlelis and doc broun all 14 staff photo second prize went to ann and gloria smith an accordion duet from sandford uxbridge township there were eight entries in the competition that attracted a large outdoor audience the master of ceremonies was nor man faulkner staff photo mrs percy wideman sudden death saddens markham markham mark- ham village lost a well- known and highly respect ed resident saturday in the sudden passing of mrs percy wideman in scar- boro general hospital her death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends in the markham community where she had lived for i he past 45 years mrs wideman the for mer barbara ethel mar grave was born on the ninth line s markham township the daughter of thomas hargravc and ma ry forgic she attended the ss 19 school and was active in the first mark ham baptist church following her marriage she lived for a time near clarcmont moving back to markham in 1922 mr wideman has operated a main street barbershop in the village for the past 44 years mrs wideman was a member of st andrews united church and the un ited church womens or ganization the respect with which she was held in the village was display ed through the beautiful floral tributes and the many who called at the di xon funeral home to ex press their sympathy surviving besides her husband arc two daugh ters dorothy mrs fred wilcock and marion mrs lome carter both of markham there arc five grandchildren ian douglas and maryanne wilcock and brian and al an carter service was conducted on tuesday afternoon at two oclock with interment st andrews cemetery markham pall bearers were joseph fry allan carson keith carson mor- icy smallcy norval mc- avov and ernie carruth- late earl ke funeral largely attended stouffville rev gordon goodcrham of stouffville baptist church conducted the service august 16 from the oneill funeral home for the late earl keith who passed away suddenly at his stouffville residence august 14 mr keith was well- known here as was indicat ed by the large number who called at the parlours prior to the service and attended the funeral the floral tributes were beauti ful following his retirement from fanning mr keith had been employed as a carpenter later he served as a crossing guard at summitvicw public school born at ringwood he had lived his entire life in the stouffville area he was 71 on june 29 1957 he was married to clara mary ross who survives along with one daughter audrey mrs eldon cober of pick ering there are four brothers john and fred of toronto frank of milliken william of unionville and one sister myrtle of un ionville pallbearers at the fun eral were george kerswill gordon kerswill norman kerswill ted barry henry slack and willard moreau interment was in stouff ville cemetery legion news guests at clinic aug 2 stouffville scene miss terry wilton
