sargeant 12b j this is 1967 canadas centennial year one hundred years ago canada became canada that was an event worth celebrating but 1 wonder- if anyone did to the extent of wasting an entire year concentrating on the world shattering problems of w hat contests to sponsor there were more im portant things to worry about certainly canadas centennial is something to br joyful about canada is our country our home and any true canadian who does not feel national spirit this year is not a very loyal citizen but how ironic this is for the past one hundred years canada has existed it did not just hop on to the map trusyear where was all our nationalism last yearthe year before and the year before that was canada such a trivial meaningless little spot on the map that it did not deserve respect for ninetynine years it must have been poor little speck of land if 1 were canada t would feel insulted my people the ones 1 clothe shelter feed and protect really rare little about my birthday 1 have tried lor years to provide a happy home for them what do they do in re turn how do they repay me they fight and argue among themselves making it impossible for them to live in harmony with each other- they hide behind a towering shadow of the united states as if i were inferior and unable to gompete canadians never cared about me until now why why have they changed this year have they done something worth celebrating will it return to the same old routine next year and the nexttin- til my second hundredth birthday celebrating centennial is praise worthy and perhaps it will create a belter unity for ourequn- try but lets not riiake a mockery of centenniall hope that all of the parties contests and ceremo nies will not merely serve to give the hypocrites among us excuses for enjoyment but will instill in us some true nationalism and pride that willnot end abruptly new years eve but will continue and grow in years to come and hopefully create a better canada perhaps most canadians are concerned about canada and feel nationalistic this year perhaps there isnt any hypocricy involved i hope there isnt 1 hope that citizens have suddenly been awakened but only we know what our true motives are perhaps we should install a new nationwide centennial project soulsearching yangtze pagoda tavern now- fully licenced under liquor act of ontario businessmens luncheon being
