mrs edgar johnson mr darcy higgins and tracy called on mr and mrs jim jones sunday mrs edgar johnson and mrs jim jones visited monday afternoon with mrs charles fiss home from hospital markham the rev donald k parr ba bd minister of highlands united church in edmon ton alberta has been cal led to the pulpit of st andrews united church in markham he is expect ed to take up his new du ties in august rev parr will succeed rev albion wright who has been ap pointed executive director of the united church ced- ar glen conference cen ter effective july 1st meeting on sunday even ing april 9 the congrega tion of st andrews voted unanimously to call mr parr upon hearing the re port of their pastoral rela tions committee present ed by the chairman mr ivan allen york presbyte ry was represented at the meeting by rev norman pick of newmarket rev parr was born in chatham ontario he ob tained his early education in dresden niagara falls ingersou and essex his father the late r h parr was a minister of the unit ed church a graduate of victoria university and emmanuel college rev donald parr began bis ministry upon ordination in 1953 at empress al berta he was called from empress to northminster church in calgary where he served 8 years prior to moving to highlands church in edmonton mr parr is presently chairman of edmonton north presbytery and is a past chairman of calgary presbytery- he has helped initiate new church ven tures including the insti tute of pastoral counsel ling in calgary and mutch- mor house a rehabilitation center in calgary- he is presently involved in a project to provide a resi dence for indian children seeking an education in edmonton he was among united church representa tives attending the first national convention on fouly life sponsored by the national council of churches in the united states he is a member of the board of governors of st stephens theological college and chairman of the alberta school of religion mrs parr is a native of toronto there are three children catherine don na and david st andrews congrega tion have expressed their intention to continue to develop a multiple minis try in the future the con gregation now serves 800 families the membership exceeds 1000 plans for the future include the estab lishment of a pastoral counselling institute in co operation with neighbor ing congregations house warming for mr ill with scarlet fever george hoover son of mr and mrs earl hoover underwent surgery in york county hospital and is pro gressing nicely mr and mrs glen hutch- eson and family of maple visited mr and mrs mal colm keith sunday it was open house at dicksons hill school on thursday night the dis play contained antiques of many varieties mrs e brownsberger mrs g holden and mr and mrs fred steckley called on mrs t dunkeld atha friday evening the occasion of her 90th birth day mr and mrs max vague son david and her parents mr and mrs bennett of searboro were sunday guests of mr and mrs w vague 25th anniversary the family of mr and mrs j lee markham entertained at a dinner party saturday for their parents on the occasion of their 25th wedding anni versary many family friends also attended mrs lee is the daughter of mr and mrs bert lickorish stouffville atha an enjoyable evening was spent with mr and mrs norman lehman stouffville when their former neighbors and friends gathered to wish
