district high school received the opportunity of a lifetime when she was selected by mr duxbury mr mercer and ten other teachers as delegate to observe the unit ed nations in action all boys and girls between the ages of 16 and 17 were eligible for the honor which is a part of the annual united nations pilgrimage for youth sponsored by the oddfel lows and rcbckah lodges of america the pro gram is an outstanding experience available for teenagers for education in the knowledge of world affairs and international understanding linda will travel to the worlds fair at mon treal and then on to new york she will stay at the sheraton atlantic hotel all expenses arc paid ex cept for personal items she will listen to behind the scenes briefings on specialized un agencies she will witness councils in action sec business car ried on in the five official languages of the un make a guided tour of the un buildings have interviews at the headquarters of several un nations will be a guest at international house will have two noon meals at the un delegates room will visit the radio city music hall and will be offered educational bus tours and boat rides on her return home she will have countless opportunities for telling about her experiences at the un to school classes church groups assem blies and lodges that sponsored her obviously linda will have the summer of a lifetime and the wine and white student yearbook which has also acquired the name centennial yearbook whats happening at sdhs open house proved a- gain to be a major attrac tion at stouffville district high school many parents commented that this years was the best open house re presentation yet it would be difficult to mention all that could be seen but the industrial arts and home economics rooms and the gymnasium were the cen tres of attraction the phy sical education program highlighted by gymnastics and folk dancing was the most enjoyable attraction the xewspapcr staff plans to present a 3rd term crea tive writing section the yearbook staff has met its deadline and has now com pleted this years edition a debating team has been formed in the school and competition with wood- bridge will begin after the holidays present members of the debating team are dieter schnell rick rod- erman bob allan and ian wightman the issue of the debate will be resolved that canada should or should not join the united states john harris and john lang have been chos en as a committee to in spire some of the shy ven- uses in the school to enter the centennial beauty con test there have been few applicants possibly be cause it was felt that talent is the most important fac tor when on the contrary it is not the invitation committee for the may prom is headed by dianne hammerston and dorothy saunders the decoration committee consists of craig baker jane harrop warren saunders wayne wright ted topping it was suggested that a cen tennial theme be used someone suggested springtime viet nam at the last student council meeting it was approved that if a new student mov es to the school in the lat ter part of the school year and wishes to buy an acti vity card the 300 fee will be reduced however a stu dent who has been attend ing our school since sept and wishes to buy an acti vity card later in the school year must pay the full fee the method of voting for the may queen may be changed depending on walter e winn and two brothers da vid 20 and william 12 a sister barbara 19 is presently enrolled at toronto teachers college but comes home almost every weekend janet received much of her elementary education at the little ss 20 school- house on coiic 10 she was caught up in the grand change area system and completed both grade 7 and 8 at jlelville north of unionville she is now in grade 11 hair stylist at the conclusion of grade 12 janet plans to enroll in brunos school of hair design in toronto she then hopes to take a position in a district beauty parlor possibly in stouffville she does her own hair and its a visible advertise ment for her skill her smile would add sparkle to any toothpaste ad janet like her sister barbara is an expert swimmer she plans to serve as a lifeguard at the stouffville pool this summer having won her bronze bal last year barbara will serve as an instructress last summer janet was em ployed as a parttime lifeguard and a waitress at the willows golf and country club she admits that she has never played the game but could probably find enough balls on her fathers farm in the fall to start her own private course i shes a secondyear cheerleader at high
