day program at jrrooklin recently workers behind whats happening at sdhs stoufrvillk the athleiic council held iis chrislmas dance last- fri day nigh a large crowd caught under the spell of ihe dance theme moon light and mistletoe listen ed to the silhouettes a polished and sophisticated band that perfectly com plimented the atmosphere of the dance this was by far one of the best organ ized dances and the deco ration committee did a superb job of decorating the auditorium the students council has hcen approached by slouffville council to organize a tra ditional tree burning cere mony after christmas the magazine drive com mittee is still in ihe pro cess of giving out prizes larry foote was the lop sdhs salesman with s72 and received an electric guitar the students council has purchased are jewel sloyan linda dafoc rob ert eddington garfield smith warren saunders rick roderman jill mc- whlnnie and ian wright- man garfield smith 12 b slouffville school spirit is a paradox this is born out very clearly in our re cent production 2 2 5 this was supposedly a glee club production di rected and produced by ted topping vcl a good many hours of work were done by sludenls not affi liated with ihe glee club they helped because they were asked to and although they organized all back stage work i hey received none of ihe giory enjoyed by those singing before ihe public yet ihe show would have hopped with out ihe efforts of these few tiis was ihe glee clubs chance lo make good but a good many arms had lo be twisted lo gel people out lo practice unless il was held during school hours then and only then did one see how many peo ple there are in ihe club afler ihe show was over friday nigh i and everyone had congratulated every one including himself on the line performance they all sighed thank god its over however ihe jani tors beg to differ on the poinl there was a gymna- lorium lull of chairs lo be put away before ihe lloor could be cleaned two peo ple showed up saturday morning lo perform this insignificant task this is par for many ac tivities in ihe school less than iiiiriy sludenls do most of ihe work in all ihe student unctions without these few who would glad ly share this responsibil ity ihe student activities would be noncxislcnt be cause of lack ofi interest oh there is lots of intcr- csi all right but not enough lo do any of the work invoked in conclusion i would like lo ihank lhose who worked backslage in ihe show editors mai dec 12 1966 dear sir wiih regard lo student derek greshams comment on ihe type of dress required for high school dances and partic ular the wearing of a shin and tie i would like to present a few opinions of my own amhough i have never been lo a dance al sloult- ville high i am ihe public ity director on ihe stu dents council at pickering high school aid therefore know something about how ihcy are run i agree with derek ihat dances are more pleasant and easily operated when sludenls act in a friendly orderly manner but just because a person wears a tic doesni make him friendly and orderly lots of bad acters can put on a lie if that is all that is keeping him from a dance when you hate a closed dance is there really much chance that unwant ed outsiders will attend at pickering the policy is lo insist on a shirt and lie for most dances however our sadie hawkins and halloween dances were ihe best yet and ihe shin- lie rule was not enforced if a student comes to a school dance in a spoils shirt and sweater il seems ridiculous lo me lo refuse him admittance many may disagree but in my opinion a shin and lie should be optional dress sincerely paul- dean claremonl onl editors xotc life in general is governed by cer- lain rules and regulations and people whether they be children adolescents or adults are expected lo ad here to them we feel thai ihe wearing of a shin and lie is very utile to expect of young people at school dances not only does it lend lo enhance the ap pearance of ihe student but it also upholds ihe dignity of the school where the dances are held j t elect student council executive at orchard park school for ihe first time orchard park public school in slouffville has an elected
