united church choir presents choral service the junior and senior choirs of stouffville united church presented a christmas choral service sunday dec 12 mr j e murdoch directed both choirs and also accompanied them on the organ the church was decorated for christmas and bathed in the soft glow of candlelight from the interesting choral arrange ment of o come all ye faith ful to the mighty hallelujah chorus from the messiah the large evening congregation reverently worshipped god through music and the reading of the christmas story by the minister rev a l borland soloists were gwen gresham singing behold a virgin shall conceive and o thou that tellest good tiding to zion florence williams singing an ancient german lullaby song of the crib and ronald mer cer singing gesu bambino with choir accompaniment one ladies trio consisting of alice ham marjory duxbury and donna wright sang the delight ful echo part of joy joy joy another ladies trio composed of marion hodgson florence williams and catherine suth erland sang two carols lo how a rose eer blooming and the holy child the junior choir made up of over two dozen boys and girls sang parts of o come all ye faithful what is this lovely fragrance and a star was his candle with the senior choir the juniors did partic ularly well in their rendering of the hiron carol and also in the rocking carol the senior choir brought a light note to the service in two old country carols carol of the bells and ding dong merr ily on high with a delicate touch so necessary in achiev ing their full effect then they showed how a small choir of about 20 voices under dedi cated leadership could sing well and beautifully handel demanding hallelujah chorus through this memorable ser vice mr murdoch and his choirs have established a hih reputation for musical excel lence which can inspire and also be enjoyable miss carruthers of rupert st enjoyed a visit last week from her nephew and family mr and mrs bruce carruthers toronto wayne the home of mrs clifford lemon rupert st mrs don devine orluia daughter of mr and mrs t h jennings lloyd ave spent a few days with her parents and is returning to celebrate christ mas mrs don roper maytree has her sister and family mr and mrs p corrin and dan with her for two weeks they have just returned from three years in germany and are heading for calgary mr corrin is in the army the osliawa agency of the crown life insurance co has named mr willis taylor of goodwood as man of the year in a ceremony held recently mr taylor was se lected from a list of 27 agents and presented with a govern ment bond and an engraved plaque the banquet and pres entation was held in the osli awa golf and country club on thursday the separate school board members and their wives and the teachers and their wives enjoyed a christmas dinner together the edgevale school of dance held their christmas open house and party on sat urday in morgan hall mark ham about forty mothers en joyed watching a short per formance by each class the separate school departed a little from the traditional theme in their school christmas party a hootenany complete with gogo girls was enjoyed by students and although many wished to see it no parents were allowed mrs lome boadway test chairman for the stouffville skating club did a tremend ous job of organizing the tests this year the stouffville skat ing
