miss fincham will enjoy teaching in stouffville and be with us for many years to come certainly words change their meaning think of what modern art has done to that old phrase for a beautiful girl as pretty as a picture beth paisley 12b even though i was aware that this summer had to begin like my last two summers plucking chickens at skyline farms in kettleby i had one thought to console me the first two weeks in august were going to mean vacation for me of course if you consider a vaca tion in the same terms as the dictionary a period of rest and freedom from work study etc then im afraid i misled you because although i was in for a welcomed change i wasnt going to get a rest instead of rising at six every morning i was allowed to sleep until seven at this time my slumber was violently disturbed by a very clear very loud bell this bell would resound any where from thirtyfive to forty- five times depending on the mood of the girl who had to get up and ring the thing just the same my cabinmatcs and i managed to sleep through it twice at eighttwenty we had break fast all our meals were provid ed by a wellknown catering company which met govern mental standards of cleanliness sanitation and quality actually the meals were quite interest ing sometimes i wasnt too hungry and sometimes i was as a rule their new and differ ent dishes were a little too new and too different for mee many options we started each day with one of our options the first week i took golf and the second week tennis our core subjects were folk dancing basketball officiat ing and aquatics in case this isnt common knowledge i am not much of a swimmer at least i wasnt and to make things worse i hadnt been in the water for over a year you cant quite imagine how i felt that first chilly morning as i stood on the wharf my teeth were chattering and my knees were knocking together i was nt cold 1 was scared then i heard 2102 get into that water not until the night when she told me i had passed my junior test did i forgive my swimming intructress the rest of our time was spent in leadership planning sessions this involves a lot which would take too much time and space briefly we planned tournaments and each leader was given a com mittee and topics these topics had to be presented to a section twentyfour girls my topic was school spirit it was at these sessions where we learned the key word of oalc evaluation every thing we did had to be evaluated by either ourselves or our lead ers we had to learn to accept criticism and we did provides leadership training ontarios athletic
